I had my gallbladder removed almost 1 year ago and I was told that if vomiting occurs to stick to liquid foods until it subsides. Luckily, I was a fast healer and was able to eat solid foods the day they finally allowed me to eat. If you'll be doing that, try soups, jell-o.. pudding... etc. Make sure it all has low fat to no fat at all. Grape juice is a good drink too.

If your friend wants to stick to solids and wait until the vomiting subsides that way, avoid sweets and fatty foods. Basically: think health nut. For breakfast, even after a year, I have problems with pancakes and french toast so she might be the same. Lunches and Snacks depend on your friend's tastes. Again, avoid sweets and fats. Pretzels are a wonderful snack food. Also, make sure there's no skin on any poultry she eats. Avoid heavily-buttered foods as well as anything pork. That includes ham, chops, bacon... you name it. pork is fatty and will be extremely uncomfortable after.

In other cases, there are certain cookies that are good, believe it or not. Fruits and veggies are always a hit, and be wary of foreign food. Some Chinese restaurants' food bother me, some don't some Mexican bothers me, some doesn't.

If your friend's hospital is as good as mine, they should've given her a small booklet [6 pages or so] which includes categories of the food groups and what foods within them are recommended and what you should avoid. If not, then here are a few links to look at. Good luck! My friend and her mom were in the same position almost a year ago!

I made sure Mom didn't have very much fats at all, that seems to be one of the main "bad" foods. Cruciferous Veggies such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and brussel sprouts are another item that makes post surgery miserable.

It didn't seem to matter at all whether I used butter, margarines, shortenings, lard, Olive Oil, veggie oils, cream, yogurt, all made Mom throw up.

This lasted about 6 months and she finally got to where she could have buttered toast.

It is a matter of seeing what upsets your friend then not fixing that again for a while. Use snack time for testing. Not meal times!! You need for her to eat a balanced meal and when she gets sick she won't want any more for a while. So then she gets worse.
