Senior ladies: Is the Red Hat society still alive and well?
or was it just a flash in the pan. I haven't heard much about it lately. Love their poem, though.

I am a member of the Red Hat Society. We wear our red hats and purple outfits. We have teas, lunches, and fun dinners. We also do outings and different activities. You do have to be over 50 to wear the red and purple, if you are under 50 you can wear pink and lavender. We began because of the poem which, begins. "When I am an old woman I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn't go and doesn't suit me"... Lots of fun! Glad you asked.

My neighbor is very much still into the Red Hat Society. She and her mother are always going to meetings and socials at least 2 times a week or more. The purple and red hats glowing all the time and they seem to be having a fun time..

The Red Hat Society is going strong in Lake County, Northern Michigan. Ladies so enjoy getting together several times a month to chat and do all the wonderful things they do.

The Red Hat Society started off ok until all the cliques and snobs and corporate types turned up...now they just suck!
Back in '05, I got kicked out the RHS group I belonged to because it got overtaken by a bunch of over conservative prissy stuck up you know whats...and they turned it into some frickin' sorority! Well, some of the women were apparently offended that I used the "f" word at tea. They actually "elected" someone to speak to me. Reminded me of jr. high school b.s. Well, technically I wasn't kicked out of the group, but I was told in no uncertain terms to shape up or ship out, so I chose to ship out rather than let them tell me what to do or make me feel like the 'poor relation.' So much for "no rules" huh?
Back then, I was 43 y/o a pink hatter and when I look at pictures of me from that time, I think, God I looked ridiculous. Why on earth did I ever join a group like that, you ask? Well, I was new in town and thought I could meet like minded people. Turned out I was wrong. In the end, it was really more like 'rent-a-friend'...yuck!
My plan? When I turn 50, I'll be EVERY color of the rainbow and have REAL friends who accept me as I am...swear words and all... and I'll not join any stupid clubs...not even the somewhat more interesting Blue Thong Society...the group that says we should "fight frump" lol
If you look at the website, you'll see that they're still around, but I don't think they're as popular as 5 years or so ago. I can't believe how corporate they went on everyone...travel agency, credit cards, etc. So much for any sort of independent 'disorganization.' A bunch of total moneymaking sell outs IMO.

It is alive and well in my town. They had a huge get together last week and were featured in an article and photos on the front page of the paper. It was cool.

They have a group that meets regularly in the little town where I live. We see them going to the library for meetings on a regular basis.
