Where is she? She Left, a poem (ITW). Long, short sentences, but a quick read. What do you think?

She Left

by Victoria Tarrani

copyright ((c) 090218)

I took her hand

rubbed it gently

for warmth.

I gazed at the

machines...

then I whispered

Mom, I don't want

you to go

I love you so much

I shook my head

and sadly said

so much pain

try to stay

I let you go

two minutes later

code blue

respiratory failure

cardiac failure

lights flashed

the room filled

with doctors

and nurses

everyone trying

to keep her with me

Papers had been signed

Do Not Resuscitate

the hardest job

was signing

those cold pages

I couldn't

wouldn't

my brother

had the job

and he cried

but he did what

she had requested

she still breathed

her heart beat

I called so many

people to come

and the room

filled once again

she was beloved

my daughter cried

inconsolable

it came time to

take off the

oxygen mask

it was so big

bulky, uncomfortable

finally I helped

take it off

the clinical discussion

how long 'till death

hours, minutes

no normal person

could listen

I blocked their

cold, crisp, chatter

I held my daughter

and my mother

the depth of emptiness

cannot be measured,

the joy of seeing her

young, no pain, happy

laughing with others

I have lost.

Peace filled my soul

then she commanded me

to do three tasks

two of three are done

last one is hard to do

how do you write a letter

to her lifelong dearest friend

what are the words?

Update:

I never would have thought of sending her this poem, but I will. You all have given so much back to me.

Yes, it is exactly what happened. It was miraculous in so many ways that I was there alone to let her go; I was stunned by how swiftly things failed. I told her that I didn't mean right now.

Thank you so much -- your words are very comforting to me; they bring tears to my eyes.

Update 2:

I find this amazing. It was the first cut; written into the little box for asking your question. I had no idea it was complete...

Update 3:

I've made minor changes, but it is done.

The one most beautiful thing about this poem is the wonderful sharing of your personal pain and joy ... I hold it dear.

    Tori,

    I was running wild,

    Trying to read and grasp;

    The time was short,

    the suffering was long.

    I know it is passing;

    I know it is grief.

    The writing is a masterpiece

    The setting is complete

    It should be for real;

    lest you`re a genius.

    The last one is hard

but you`ve done two of the three.

    so just sent this..

This piece of long and short quick read

I think she have left in peace.

Tori the person to whom you need to write will want to hear what it was like at the end, because they couldn't be there....this poem will put that person in the room with you all. A short introduction perhaps to say the best you could do is to write a poem to describe the last moments and that the friend was there in your Mum's heart to the very last. Then just tell them about any arrangements or memorials. Very emotional and brave read.

Oh Tori. This made me tear. If is a true thing, you have my deepest condolences. A very very hard decision to make indeed. That letter ....might start with this poem. Or at least contain it somewhere. It is very eloquently written. Hugz

Tori, these are the words you use to write that letter. You send it exactly as you have written it here. The gift of words in poetry is the greatest gift anyone can give, especially in times of crisis and tragedy.

  • A year after my mom died, I was at a lake cabin with my friend and her grand daughter, Jen was coloring and Sue and I were playing yachtzee

the cabin filled with a soft floral scent, we had no idea what it was, however I felt a calmness descend on me and I recognized it as my mothers favorite lily of the valley..

I am sure she was there with us if only briefly, letting me know it was alright.

    this poem is absolutely amazing.

it has so much feeling, its like i can see it all in my head.

im very sorry for your loss.

youve written this with so much honesty, depth and sincerity that it reaches right out to me.

i think you should definately use this poem in your letter.

think of what she should want you to say, grab some paper and a pen, and it will come to you.

this poem is truely amazing, you should read it to your daughter when she grows up-if she is still young.

goodluck with your letter, she will be watching over you with guidance to help you write it.

    Short quick breaths.

You have written that letter with this work. No deeper, fulfilling letter should be written...it would not carry the same impact.

Sometimes the world does cry, when you do...very, extra poignant...

My heart goes out to you and your family, Sweet Tori.

She is not gone. She is merely free. Her love will always be with you. She is smiling so big right now. And she is so proud of you.

    Love and hugs,

    lu
