Why do right wingers run from the Fairness Doctrine (they used it 40 years ago)?

Don't they know Richard Nixon invoked it as early as the 1960s and 1970s to quell opposition to Vietnam and to silence speculation on Watergate since liberals created and dominated talk radio back then?

Besides, Obama is against it.

Update:

It's fun to watch right wing tough guys run from their own tactics.

Update 2:

I'm against it too. I like listening to Rush and the other boneheads. They're very entertaining in traffic.

I am all for the Fairness Doctrine IF liberals would demand it apply to TV.

In response to your juvenile comment, no one is running from the Fairness Doctrine. It kind of interferes with the liberal cry about free speech.....hyprocrites!

Radio is a business and they know that every liberal station fails because only the foaming-at-the-mouth liberals listen to their insanity. Why would any business want to take on something that fails?

Well obviously it was a bad idea then as it is now - were'nt students shot to death at a universtiy for protesting back then? If thats where it leads in our "free" society I want nothing to do with it .

PS - I dont like Rush Limbaugh (he uses NLM and what he says and what people think he says are often different things) but his show is a very small price to pay for free society .

Because you do not want the government telling us whats conservative and whats liberal. Why do we stop there, why dont we split up what gas stations you buy your gas from equally no matter the price, lets get the government to decide that we must split the style of music we listen to equally, lets split the number of time we visit a church up so we go to all of them equally, if people do not listen a station it will soon cease to exist, and the ones people listen to will thrive, this is common sense, i guess what im saying is why should we stop with the radio?

There is no place for the Fairness Doctrine in a Democratic Republic that owns its airwaves. Same holds true for the liberal commentary that dominates the television spectrum.

The current government can take the air waves away from the people and there's not a lot we can do about it, but that would be a prolitarian move worthy of revolt.

For the same reason Democrats opposed homosexual rights 40 years ago, but support it now. The world has changed in the last 40 years!!

You're kidding, right? Why the hell would anyone in their right mind welcome back anything that was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court?

It restricts freedom of speech, man. This shouldn't be a Republican or Democrat issue. It's a protection of our freedoms issue.
