Question for Muslims?

I found almost no Muslims in religion and spirituality, and a lot of trolls. sorry this isn't really about Ramadaan.

I'm an atheist who was raised as an atheist, and I know little about any religion. As an exploration, and an attempt to understand others, I have recently taken an interest in religion. I started by studying Christianity, since it is very common where I live, but because of my new interest in religion, a Muslim friend of mine thought to introduce me to Islam.

Naturally, as an atheist, I asked about science, and where Islam stands on the big bang, evolution, etc. It turns out that, while my friend is a very devout Muslim, he likes science, and believes in it. He told me the Islamic creation story, and I found, not only that it does not contradict modern science, but that it in fact goes with it well. He quoted the Quran for me several times, but this one I found particularly striking:

"All that is in our sky was as smoke, and God said "come ye together, willingly or unwillingly.""

The solar system was once nothing but a cloud of ionized gas. It was, in fact "as smoke". This quote alone, I would have thought little of, but he mentioned at least ten off the top of his head that are just as scientifically sound.

The Christians say that scientific/religious contradictions are a test of their faith, as is their inability to fully understand the nature of god. According to my friend, in Islam, these things are considered detrimental to faith, and therefore, explanations of such things as the nature of god, and his plan, and his goals for us, as well as accurate scientific information, are provided in the Quran. Our daily lives have all the tests god wishes for us to pass in life without having to deal with scientific data that contradicts him, or a total lack of understanding of his true nature as added tests.

After a couple of our discussions, I was very interested to learn more about Islam, but I have barely begun. This all happened in the last week. I trust my friend, but I thought it might be beneficial to hear from more than one Muslim. First, are there any beliefs that Muslims must have that explicitly contradict known principles of science (evolution, the big bang, etc.). My second question is a bit more complicated;

My friend made Islam sound very rational, so much so that I, a completely godless soulless atheist who believes only in science, could understand everything he said. I haven't studied enough to know whether it is that rational or not but if we assume it is (since I assume most Muslims will make that claim); Part of every religion I really know much about is believing in the irrational. It is not normally part of human nature to have faith that way. However, many people have such a strong will to survive that it leads them to believe in irrational things because they can't handle knowing that death truly is the absolute termination of one's existence (which is what I believe). That fear of absolute death, I think, is what keeps atheism from sweeping the planet, and wiping out all belief in all gods. If Islam is something rational that provides eternal life, that meets everyone's needs. If Islam is such a thing, why does it not sweep the planet? If it can combine science and logic with eternal life, no one would ever be anything but a Muslim. As rational as my friend says Islam is, I take the existence of any other ideology, including atheism, as evidence that there is some kind of catch. If it is all that, why would anyone ever NOT be a Muslim? If there is irrationality, what is it? If not, why are there non-Muslims in the world?

You are right and wrong in your theory and ideas about Islam. It needs a lot of study before you finally reach a decision.

1- Most Muslims would attract and impress people by the Quran. But as soon as the person decides to be a Muslim, they will direct him/her to the absurd and illogical sources of Hadith and Sunnat, saying that they are compulsory. It is like the hiring process, where you are shown something and put in the other, once you sign the agreement.

So be careful about that part. And that is why I am saying, you need a LOT of study.

I too am a devout muslim. The ONLY difference is that I was born and raised in a FIRM SUNNI Muslim family. It was about 7 years ago (when I was 35 years old) that I finally got enlightened with the truth i.e. God Alone, Quran Alone. And the sheer falsehood that is enforced and practiced in the name of religion.

Since them I am a firm Quranist, Submitter and to be precise a "Reformist".

2- It is TRUE that the Quran "DOES" contain Scientific information. This information was far ahead of its time, at the time of its revelation. And I believe that there is information that is far ahead even of the present times. Therefore, a few things may appear as in conflict to the present science. But in the longer run, Science will yield to the facts.

3- The Big Bang is CONFIRMED in the Quran.

4- The Theory of Evolution is NOT confirmed in the Quran. The Quran does say that evolution WITHIN a given specie is fact. HOWEVER it DOES NOT say that evolution across the specie is possible i.e.

a- An ant may evolve to different type of ants etc.

b- BUT it is NOT possible that an ape would evolve into a human OR a fish will evolve into a bird, a lion would evolve to a goat, an elephant to an ant etc.

    ----------

As far as sweeping the world is concerned. I would only say that your knowledge about the Quran is near to a nill at the moment.

You need to know from the Quran, what is the purpose of life. Did God create all this just for fun, or for a specific purpose.

And let me tell you that the Quran contains FAR more information than Old Testament. Once you know these things you will know it is NOT for the numbers. The Majority is to be doomed. It is the minority (in fact minority of the minorities) that will be successful.

As far as sweeping or ruling the world is concerned. I personally think, the numbers are STILL not required for that. The world is ruled by less than 0.5% people of the world. Isn't it ??

There is more to being a true Muslim than the science in the Quran; the mark of a true Muslim is his submission to Allah, and his belief in Mohammad as the prophet of Allah.

If you truly did read the Old Testament, you will also find very many scientific revelations; remember that Muslims also believe in the Old testament prophets and try as you may, Muslims cannot completely ignore the Bible as an extension of their faith.

If you would become a Muslim because of the Science in the Quran, then forget it.

An atheist believing in Islam because of it's scientific proof is like a christian joining islam after 911.

To truely believe in Islam, you must first SUBMIT to Allah.

Are you willing to take the first step???

Then Submit first and then we will talk science.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Hello. Well, I have never been an atheist, though I was not born a Muslim. I have always believed in God. To me, creation implies a Creator. I don't believe that the universe came into being out of nothing. Islam is not inimical to science, and it is true that some of the verses in the Holy Qur'an are exactly in accordance with modern scientific knowledge, though the Qur'an was revealed over 1400 years ago. I have given you a link below to a very interesting article on the Islamic view of embryology.

Islam IS rational, but of course you have to be able to make that ONE leap of faith, the leap that says "Perhaps I am wrong, let me at least suppose for a moment that there may be a God". I hope you are able to suspend your disbelief and think with an open mind and heart. Surely if you are able to do so, Allah will guide you to the Truth.

Why is not every human Muslim? Well, if every person reacted rationally, they would be. But just look around at your fellow humans. We as a race tend to be short-sighted and irrational. Any RATIONAL person knows that heroin is bad for you, but millions shoot up. Any rational person knows that too much sugar is bad for you, yet we continue to buy Super Big Gulps and extra large bags of Snickers bars. Even when the truth is staring us in the face, we often turn away. We CHOOSE disbelief and rebellion because we want to chase after whatever it is we are chasing after and we don't want to take responsibility for our lives - and our afterlives. Allah created us with the freedom to choose. Not everyone chooses wisely.

We are born with an innate tendency to believe in God, but our upbringing can change us. Our parents teach us to believe in many gods, or none at all. The media teaches us that WE are gods, and in our arrogance we believe. So it is no surprise, really, that many disbelieve. We often have to overcome some really strong conditioning to return to that innate knowledge that a loving Creator brought about this universe and sustains it.

The beauty of Islam is that, once you've made that leap to accepting there is a God, Islam does not ask you to believe in something that is a logical impossibilty. We do not try to teach you that one plus one plus one is One, as in the Trinity. We do not teach that because Adam and Eve made a mistake, all of mankind is doomed. We teach that you are responsible for your actions and that there will be an accounting on the Day of Judgment. We teach that science is a good thing, that knowledge is vital, whether it be knowledge of how to recite the Qur'an correctly or how to perform brain surgery. Science and Islam go hand in hand.

I do hope you continue to learn about Islam and I will ask Allah to guide you and help you to understand and believe in Him. May Allah give you that which is best in this world and the next. Ameen.

    Fi Aman Allah,

    Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

In my experience those who learn a vast amount about the real islam become muslim. I studied islam a long time before I reverted. I had no intention to become muslim, and in fact never saw it happening. I do find islam very rational and thorough. The point of islam is to study everything with scrutiny . Even our faith and all that comes with it. The majority of people are ignorant to islamic beliefs. Hatred keeps people from looking at islam without bias. Islam IS sweeping the world no matter how much that scares some people. Free will gives people the option to belief and disbelief. People hold on to the traditions of their fathers , and that keeps them from looking at other options. With an open mind Islam makes perfect sense.

This book is an exchange of letters that took place between the Muslim scholar, Mohamad Jawad Chirri, and Dr. Wilson H. Guertin, that led Dr. Guertin to accept Islam.

    Dr. Guertin Writes:

"If you are a Muslim, read this book out of the obligation to acquire knowledge. If you are a Jew or Christian, read it for the same devout motive. Comparative study of religions may be unsettling if your belief in God is based upon non-rational grounds but can only have the ultimately desired result of strengthening your belief. The pervasive belief in God as represented in our motives must be the goal which our religious educators work toward, with gains in sectarian support becoming quite secondary... If you are unable to say that you believe in God, you can still find value in the study of religion. In the following pages of dialogue, you will be pursuing some of the most important concerns of mankind that can be traced back to the beginning of recorded history. The thoughts and historical events are important in their own right, and perhaps you will, as I have, find the way to a belief in God through them."

    Inquiries About Islam

Well. Some people naturally just don't want to believe in Islam no matter the proof. The irrationality is these so called facts they think they have. LIke some quote it is violent. Others pay Islam no mind because they just believe it preaches violence and temperance. There areno irrationalities just misunderstandings. There are non-muslims because they refuse to see. They keep there eyes blind. THey ask the computer to show them if Islam is true and trust any anti Islamic site, instead of Askin God.

Those who don't believe choose not too.

For example if someone wants to believe Islam is false they will purposly go on hate sites about Islam instead of checking for sites that support Islam. WHile others only look for good sites.

I look through hate sites first and then I look for the answers on Islamic sites. This shows me that no matter what other people say Islam won't and Can't be proven false

Isn't it interesting how no muslim said anything about the big bang until scientists in the 20th century started talking about it?

M started this religion because he thought that it would be the best way to get an army to fight his supposed enemies. Read the Quran and you will know why I call it the most evil religion in the world. It is a primitive religion lead by primitive men.

    Bismilla hir Rahman ir Raheem...

In the name of Allah, the most Compassionate, the Most Merciful...

I am glad you are beginning to use your logic, because Islam and logic go hand in hand...

You mentioned the smoke of early Earth's atmosphere...Islam also talks about the Big Bang, and more scientific facts...1400 years ago-

If you want to discover them, go to this wonderful site (All Praise be to Allah)... http://www.quranmiracles.com/

You ask why Islam doesn't sweep across the planet? It is the FASTEST growing religion in the WORLD... and projections say that if the rate keeps up... Islam will be the #1 religion in about 30 years, Insha'Allah (God Willing).

As the Quran says in Chapter 2: Verse 256- Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error

To answer your question as to why there are other religions and belief systems, and why other people are atheists, etc....

I will answer it with the Words of Allah the Almighty...

"Do not the Believers know, that, had Allah (so) willed, He could have guided all mankind (to the right)? But the Unbelievers,- never will disaster cease to seize them for their (ill) deeds, or to settle close to their homes, until the promise of Allah come to pass, for, verily, Allah will not fail in His promise." 13:31

"You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination." 3:186

"And We have revealed to you, [O Muْammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations away from what has come to you of the truth. To each of you We prescribed a law and a method. Had Allah willed, He would have made you one nation [united in religion], but [He intended] to test you in what He has given you; so race to [all that is] good." 5:48

"Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned." 21:35

Basically, Allah could have made all Believers, but he didn't and everything here is here for a test... unfortunately these 'Atheists' fail the test...

    May Allah guide you...

    Salam (Peace)

You are incorrect when you think that Islam has not swept the earth. Constantinople, Indonesia, and many more countries were originally full of christians and other faiths. Today, they are completely Muslim. Additionally out of a population of 6 billion people on earth, at least 2 billion are Muslim. Islam now officially outnumbers the amount of all Christian sects combined, and its growth rate is unprecedented like never before.

The reason many people do not want to accept Islam is because of Family, they are afraid of being shunned. (My mother converted to Islam from Christianity, and she went through alot of problems with her family.)

They are afraid of what society will think about them, today, the media portrays Muslims as fanatics with a 'backward' religion. They are afraid to accept the truth, and do not want to acknowledge it because it is contradictory to what they have grown up in all their life. Others refuse to consider Islam, despite knowing in their hearts that it is true, and then make up objections, which are then satisfactorily dealt with, and even then, refuse to accept it out of arrogance.
