A fifth grader shot his pregnant stepmother. Who do you think is responsible for this? Should his gun have?
been locked up? Would you hold his father responsible for the murder of his girlfriend and unborn child. She was nine months pregnant, due anyday.
The gun was made for a child. They live in an area where there a lot of hunters. The child is 11, and he recieved the gun for Christmas from his dad, and they suspect the motive was jealousy. His dad was teaching him to hunt.

In this day and age, no child should have a gun. Kids now are different than they were 50 years ago. They take liberties that belong to an adult and they don't know what they are doing half the time. The father should also be held responsible for this shooting, since his son is underage.

The father should have been responsible enough to keep the gun locked up. Someone should have noticed that this child was angry about his living situation. The home where they lived was in the girlfriend's name. The father and son moved in with this woman and her children. The son was probably angry because he had to give up all that he had with his father and share his fathers attention with a stranger and her children. This does not excuse what this child did. He should not have killed the girlfriend no matter what. I hope that he gets help.

It depends if the child did it on purpose or if it as an accident. Either way really, the gun should have been locked up. In most shootings involved with children, the child was taught how to use the gun.
EDIT: First of all you should have stated your details to begin with, otherwise there is NO point to your question. Second of all, that is what I mean by idiots teaching their children how to use guns.

Obviously the whole situation was not handled properly with the child. If he was jealous of the girlfriend - the father should have sat down with him and explained how things were. Maybe he did and the kid still didn't get it. We don't know.
Obviously, the child was not taught about the responsibility of having a gun. His dad should have waited until the kid was older to get him involved in hunting to make sure he was mentally equipped to handle it all.
Joe C - a little self righteous aren't you? Why shouldn't this father have someone in his life? I don't know the story here about where the mother is - were they divorced? did she leave him? did she die? the kid was living with him wasn't he? You have no right calling her a whore either. You don't know the circumstances of their lives. Your are not God.

No his gun should not have been locked up. He simply should not have a gun in the first place. Responsibility lies with the State that allows a child to legally posses a firearm.

Sad story. Dysfunctional families are everywhere. In a "hunting home", the child needs to be institutionalized. He had deep problems with his fathers girlfriend. As well as have the father examined.
Ive dated women with children. no biggie to me. But if I get a "hint" the kids dont like me, I end it and move on.
The girlfriend didnt ASK to be killed!
