Where is the defrost timer located in a whirlpool?

I have a late model whirlpool refrigerator with freezer on top. It has the split glass shelves, clear plastics, wide door shelves, etc. It has a filtered water tap on the top left of the fridge part. I need to find the defrost timer, but so far it seems hidden. Any ideas?

Update:

I know what the timer looks like as i have taken hundreds apart, but this one seems to want to hide.

Update 2:

It was loaded with ice. Could be either problem or just someone spilled water..I'm selling it so I don't care really as long as it doesn't freeze up tomorrow and I have an angry customer demanding a refund. ;)

Update 3:

You're right..no timer on it according to the diagrams..has to be either the clipon switch or the heater itself which appears fine.. probably just to much water in the darn thing

If it is an electronic control version the timer is often built on to the control board. It could also be a separate board. Without telling us the model I can't tell you.

On the whirlpools with the controls on the top rear back of the fresh food section the time is usually located behind that control panel, close to the thermostat. Same with most mechanical ones with the controls in front, it is in that control housing.

And yes, it could be the defrost bimetal or the heater that has failed.

Take your model number and find a diagram in partselect.com to locate the timer. Also pull out the kickplate and check to the left, it might be down there.

look behind or around the light, most of the time they're located in that area, all it is ,is a slotted plastic screw like head almost flush with the panel.

you sure it is a timer ,could be a switch that sits on the coils maybe needs to be replaced
