Become an RN (nurse), or flight attendant?

To make this extremely simple, which it really is anything but, I am having serious trouble deciding whether or not to become an RN, or become a flight attendant.

RN: I have always wanted to help people and make a difference. I believe that I can become a successful nurse, because I am an ambitious student.

Flight attendant: I love helping people and have a great desire to travel around the country/world, and this job would allow me to do both.

I can see the obvious advantages and disadvantages to both jobs, but I'd like to view any advice/comments on this. If you are a nurse, or flight attendant yourself, I would love to talk with you!

Thank you..!

I recommend becoming an RN for the following reasons.

The only perk of becoming a flight attendant is free traveling, but even that is limited. You only get a short amount of time in each area, most of your time is spent on a small plane serving people, and you are away from your family most of your time. You can be easily replaced, which is only inevitable, especially since airline companies are always going bankrupt. If you have ever been in an airplane for 8+ hours you know thats a horrible experience, so now imagine doing that every day.

There are far more perks to becoming an RN, but first, the obvious ones. You get amazing benefits, and health insurance. Although you work a lot, you still have time for a family. The pay is significantly better. There is always a need for more people in health care, because there will always be sick people, dying people, and so on. If you enjoy traveling you will make enough as a nurse to travel where you want. You can accomplish your goal in that you want to help people.

To me this is a very easy choice, because as a nurse you can accomplish helping people as well as traveling. I really recommend being a nurse, it is a much better decision and I think you will be much happier with that.

RNs can always get jobs and can upgrade to Nurse Practitioner. Flight attendants do not start out on a round-the-world flight! They start out with local service airlines, small planes, short flights, 12-hour layovers. That means you've got 12 hours from the time you sign off your flight until the time you check into your next flight. During this time, you need to sleep, eat, relax and NOT drink alcohol within 8 hours of your flight. That 12 hours may also include an hour in the crew cab between the airport and your hotel. You "travel", but you rarely see anything but the plane, the cab, and the hotel. You do not usually have time for sightseeing, and your salary isn't too great. The glory days of being a flight attendant ended with the advent of jets. No more long layovers with fun side trips. That's been gone since the 60s.

Two words: TRAVEL NURSE! You get the best of both! You can work anywhere in the U.S. (as long as you get the state license) and overseas, if you chose to do so. A lot of travel nursing jobs are about 6 weeks (or more if you choose), then you can choose a different location. Also, everything is paid for you (apartment/house, etc), you're basically set.

I dunno, personally, I think riding on a plane day-in, day-out would get a little old after awhile. Besides, you might go to a lot of different cities, but it's not like you're a tourist and get to see all the attractions. You usually just stay a few days at a hotel close to the airport, you don't really get a chance to unwind a little and see everything.

    Good luck!

Become a traveling nurse. There really is something like that. I don't know what it's called but you travel almost as much as a flight attendant and you do nurse work. It's the best of both world's

US Air Force and US Navy operate a fleet of C-9 airplanes (military DC9-30) - These are medical evacuation airplanes - They have a cabin crew consisting of flight nurses - My airline has a few flight attendants which happen to be qualified nurses - As part of uniform insignia - they get a little red cross emblem near their wings - They are listed as F/A - flight attendants - no difference with airlines... All airline F/A are trained for passenger First Aid and CPR - They get initial and recurrent training done by Red Cross instructors - In addition they get trained in high altitude physiology/oxygen use - ..

RN definitely!! You can still travel the country-every community needs a RN.

And if your really good at it, you might become a flight nurse on long flights or short helicopter runs.

I would definately choose to be a nurse because I also love to help others and in that occupation, you help alot more people in the long run than a flight attendant. Medicine is always a good area to get into because we will always need doctors and nurses to cure people.

You should choose whichever you think you'll be comfortable with. But, a nurse's job is always in demand and more challenging than a flight attendant. I wanted to be a flight attendant and my mom said it was a glorified waitress on a plane. Good Luck!

ya it would be nice to get paid to basically travel the world

but dont you think youll get tired of being in a plane all the time I mean imagine the cramps in your neck all the time

and also if your a Attendant youll probably always have to stay in a hotel in diffrent citys instead of your own home
