My priest can't marry us, so how do I find a wedding officiant?

I am Catholic, and my fiance is non-religious. Our wedding will be in my homestate of California in August (we now live in Michigan where I go to school). I thought my priest could marry us but he is unable to, although he will perform our blessing later on in December. So need someone to perform the civil ceremony at our wedding but I have no idea how to start looking. I tried a non-denominational church but they require 6 months of premarital counseling, which won't work since we currently live out of state. What to do?

We hired a judge to do ours and most judges WITH a small extra fee will go to the location of where you want to get married. You can say your own vows and before he performs most ask what YOU want.

You have several choices through these two websites . . gatheringguide.com (click on the state where you plan to marry) or go to the website of the American Association of Wedding Officiants (AAWO). The AAWO website will give you the opportunity to put in a request. You should provide the following information: the time of your wedding, the date of your wedding, the exact location of your wedding plus your names, telephone number, and E-mail address so someone can contact you.

your best bet is going to be looking on the internet for wedding officiants in California, many of them will do a none denomination or even a catholic wedding and i haven't found one yet that require counseling.

if you go into google and type in wedding officiants, city California you should come up with a list that serve in that local area. i will warn you many charge a pretty penny (mine is charging $200) but most are pretty diverse. make sure to look over their prior weddings to see if they have a good feedback.

the officiant can make or break the big day.

Try other churches. I found one, but it took several tries. If not, just have a justice of the Peace marry you, and have it blessed later.
