How do you safely signal to cars behind you that you're braking?

My bike stops really fast!!! What's the proper way to brake so that you give the person behind you enough time to see that you're slowing down with your brake light.

I flash the brake light for people but I don't know if that's enough.

Update:

Even with a turn signal it's like they still don't see me.

Update 2:

I slow down slow. Biggest problem is some people don't want to slow down at all.

usually doing something that is prone to getting their attention is how I deal with someone whom I suspect of not paying attention. I do this by zig-zagging across my lane as I am slowing down. I do this by standing up on my footpegs/floorboards as I am slowing down. And by all means, slow down gradual, but keep and eye on the mirror and watch the moron behind you. If it looks like they ain't gonna get stopped-take off out of there! Go to the shoulder, go to the opposite lane of traffic, just don't be a sitting duck or hood ornament for them. Then park and walk back and politely ask them to please concentrate on their driving.

I flash my brake light from the time I begin slowing till the car behind me stops (I wore out a front brake switch).

Keep your eye on the rear view and assume that every car behind you is being driven by a chick on a cell phone.

"Ride like you're invisible" is probably the best advice any rider can get. You cannot assume that anything you do will get the attention of the cager behind you.

Just because your motorcycle stops really fast, does not mean you have to stop fast every time you need to brake. Slow down smoothly and easily.

You are smart to be checking what is happening behind you.

    Good Luck

    Don't stoppppppppppppppppppppp

    Slow down.

The driver behind you might be on his cell phone, playing with the radio, yelling at the kids in the back seat and not paying attention to a little bitty motorbike.

Give him time to react to your speed change.

slow down on slowing down. the problem with riding is there is no good way to make sure that cars see you so if you wanna live you have to go out of your way to do so. it's stupid but that's one of the responsibilities of riding. granted if they hit you they can be charged but that's not gonna bring you back to life. so ride safe and stop messing around in traffic

First your bike doesn't stop fast, you stop it fast, don't do that. Try using your hand signals, wave it around a little bit.
