was the anti-war movement during Nixon's presidency the reason he announced he would take troops out of Vietnam and eventually end the war? Did Nixon really care about the protests?

The mainstream was becoming increasingly anti-war and the war itself was a quagmire -- basically unwinable in the way it was being fought. When Nixon ran against Humphrey in 1968, both promised to end the war in a positive way, but Nixon's policy of escalation didn't work and the public was getting sick and tired of seeing body bags come home in a war that had no real clear purpose.

The turning point for the Vietnam War was when Nixon asked the Joint Chiefs of Staff what the plan was to win the war. When they responded that there was no plan, Nixon decided enough was enough.
In contrast, when being interviewed for the job of commanding the European theatre for world war two, Eisenhower reached into his briefcase and presented a plan he'd drawn up. It was an impressive and very detailed plan of action that he'd created on his own initiative. He was easily the best candidate, and he did get the job done.

The US got its azz kicked and scrammed out on April 15, 1975.
Gerald Ford was president.
The protests had a great deal to do with changing public opinion of and tolerance for the war.

No, it was the relentless anti-war protests during the Johnson administration that Nixon made the promise to end the war "with dignity".
People forget that Vietnam was entirely a democrat war and entirely a democrat debacle.
Kennedy started it, and Johnson escalated it to over 500,000 troops in country.

I believe that in one University or education complex a National Guard soldier shot a protester. Got big attention as to it did merit it.
Nixon ended the war though, but Kissinger was fundamental

It was the protesters that angered him, but it was what he did when he attacked the protesters that made everyone in the country turn against him and that was when he decided to pull out of Vietnam.
