What do you think of 'Merricat, Merricat, Living In The Castle' pome?
Ain't nothin funny about 6a.m.,
Cept coffee fightin the sugar,
Laughin at cream...all in dimness
Of clouds rollin by...
So, Merricat, Merricat,
Where to, today? Going to
Town for groceries, and a
Cupo Jo at that cafe, where
Laughter sits beside you?
Merricat, Merricat, travel on
Home, now...through the
Rusted gate, through dark
Woods, right on up to the castle.
Tell Uncle Julian hello for me...
Sit him in the garden...to fumble,
Mumble about the last dinner...
Merricat, Merricat, brush your
Hair. Fire's getting closer, made
In the town...of gossips, fools,
Just because they say you
Poisoned your family, sittin
Round the dinner table...silly
Merricat...putting it in the sugar.
Where's your home, now, Merricat?
Ashes to ashes, but villagers leave
Food on your front porch now...
Restitution, retribution...oh, Merricat!
They need to apologize for burning
Your castle...belladona, cyanide,
Mushrooms, mushrooms, mushrooms.
Merricat, Merricat!
Don't poison me!
Down in the boneyard,
Ten feet deep!

* Note: this is based on Shirley Jackson's book...
'We Have Always Lived In The Castle'...

Never read the book but might do so now! Mind you, got to finish Terry Pratchett's Making Money, John Connolly's The God Of Lost Things and Aravind Ariga's The White Tiger first!
Actually the mention of mushrooms put me in mind of Clint Eastwood in the film where he is poisoned by the house full of girls with mushrooms.. what was it called...?
Nice lines.

Damn! I just finished reading the National Electrical Code and now you want me to read some psychological thriller? Pass the poison! Got the gist of the book from you poem though. Are you going to sell this to Cliff Notes?

You surely like to mystify folk!
Because of the poetry of T.S.Eliot I pictured Merricat (not unexpectedly) as a cat...so that added to my confusion.
I wonder if the opening stanza is necessary...I see you mention the poison in the sugar later, but I didn't link this back at all - for me it sounds as if you were starting one poem and then quickly changed your mind!

To say it in short I would say: Merricat,ie we or any definite person dedicated to, has actually forgot its root,ie, native, and this happened, because merricat had a deep desire to grab that , which never suited her.......and in this course she did all that were actually fake and inconsequence she lost her originality, or native, or home.......and, by the time she realizes her mistake it was too late.
