Poweder milk it's nasty but it lasts along time, potatoes, carrots, onions, rice, canned tomtatoes, flour, veg oil , yeast, ground meat, picnic ham, chicken thighs club pack, oatmeal, rasins ( my kids love them with cheese and apples as a snack healthy snack!!) the above is just a sample of the things we get, we also have 5 soon 6 and a limited budget. Try purchasing bulk store-brand foods. Stores like HEB (in Texas) sell a lovely big sack of frozen drumsticks. One bag of those lasted two months for me and my husband. You can also get a 20-pack of frozen processed hamburger patties (disgusting, but they are food). We buy generic-brand everything but toilet paper (hey, you gotta have standards, right? =D) and we usually come out under budget. Don't let the kids pick out sugary snack crap they don't need. If you can live without it, don't buy it.

look around for whoever has the best sales. and i personally do a lot of my non-perishable shopping at dollar stores, especially for things like tp, paper towels, canned vegetables, etc. also, i've learned how to make a LOT of different meals using ramen noodles.
