With the US leaning towards Socialism...?

With our current president and his congressional followers talking of nationalizing many failing US corporations and banks, not to mention nationalizing health care, free college for students, etc,. How far flung an idea do you think secession is?

There are movements in multiple states...the purpose of the Constitution was to restrict the powers of the Federal Government and to allow all powers to be vested in the states that did not absolutely have to be delegated to the Federal Government. Because our founding fathers had seen the despotism that occured when a single omniscient power like England or Washington DC oppressed the people with unfair taxation and basically did whatever it wanted with the peoples money.

Thus the constitution was drafter with three equal but seperate parts to check and balance each other...and besides military, law and order the states would for the most part provide for themselves....until the Federal Government began it's massive expansion under Roosevelt and got it's figners into every single industry and taxed every single commodity....leaving the states with the crums left over....and slowly but surely imposing it's power over the states....This march towards nationalization started during FDR's era and had it's only downscaling during the Reagan years....

The Federal Governments push to nationalize the country and it's infrastructure is ultimately going to push groups to do radical things to save themselves from despotism...and one of the very obvious and at this point very tantalizing things is secession from the Union...Texas has huge energy reserves...California has huge energy reserves and an abundance of industry...If they were stand alone states outside of the union....Fedzilla could not tax their assets and commodoties allowing the governments to pay for themselves without interference and aid from a Federal Government that mandates control for the sake of matching funds....

Texas would be the first....and I would be the first at the Texas border asking for a workers visa and application for citizenship....this country wants to march towards nationalization....I want to live somewhere where taxation is done with thought and consideration for the people not just as a method to sustain the Federal Governments desire to spend dollars and not just as a method to win voted from those enrolled in the entitlement programs that my hard work pays for.

Leaning towards socialism? What country have you lived in for the last century?

The US has always had some at least partially socialistic ideals. E.g. police, firefighters, airports, education (K-12), water, health care (for old people and some children), social security, and more.

All the banks are controlled indirectly or directly by the Federal Reserve anyway, but even Republicans have been saying nationalizing might have to be an option. But it's just talk; you need ACTION to have socialism, or capitalism for that matter, not just talk.

Unfettered social or capitalism can be bad, and that's why we've always had a combination of both. So stop over-exaggerating.

Very far flung. That issue was decided by the civil war. Secession is not an option. That actually was the basic issue of the civil war.

In fact, they are NOT talking about nationalizing banks. They are talking about privatizing the "toxic debt."

And, the US holdings acquired in the "bailout" are also slated for privatization.

If I want to reduce mercury in my drinking water, I would rather rely on a socialist leaning government that tests water (and drugs and food and medical procedures) than a government that prefers to encourage profits over public health.

It's happened before, and history does tend to repeat its self. It be a hell of a one sided fight being most liberals probably don't know how to operate firearms.
