DWP pre-employment check question.....?

How long (average) do the pre-employment checks take that the DWP carry out?

If, for instance, a previous employer stalled with replying, would that ruin an application?

    Didn't affect my application but they did a credit check and a criminal check and credit problems stopped me getting the job.

    Cannot specify exact time span , but the date of your application usually dictates when enquires commence and subsequently when checks are received
