My car failed the CO2 (pollution) emission test?

Ok so I just got my car's CO2 emission test done (which is a compulsion to get done every 3 months here in Delhi, India) and the guy told me that there was 2% more emission than the acceptable levels and that I must get it checked or the car might breakdown. Well, I am going to take it to the service center later today but I was just wondering if anyone knew the probable cause(s) for it?

It is a 4 years and 10 months old Fiat Palio 1.2L. This is the first time that I have faced this problem. However, about a month or two ago I had faced a problem where I felt the pick up of the car wasn't at its best; I got it checked and they found the spark plugs were all worn out, hence I got them replaced. The ride did become a little better after that but I still feel its not all the way smooth.

Anyone got any ideas of what might be going on over here?

Cheers.

You could be using the wrong spark plugs for the vehicle or the plug is too hot causing the probes to melt, or last but not least the plug is not hot enough and there not burning the vapors on combustion...SO - pull the plugs if the ends are melted, than your using too hot of a plug, if the ends are fine and oily than the plug is not hot enough.. Short of that your next step would be to replace the rings and exhaust sensors which would regulate the return of vapors to your engine for re burning. Those are call oxygen sensors..

Flog your dead horse and get a diesel car. Then grow or pick some of that wild hemp for the seed and make your own biodiesel. INDIA has large stands of naturalized Cannabis. India use to be one of the biggest importers of hemp to Britain along with Russia. With the rest of the plant make yourself some food, paper, paint & plastic, textiles, concrete and medicine etc.

You also will have less to worry about if an oil tanker leaks as far less enviormental damaged if any is caused.

I'd say its more that the engine needs a tune to optimise the petrol / air mixture going into the engine / check air filter / petrol filter.

Having the engine tuned will also increase the miles / gallon

you may need a oil change and all the filters replaced it would explain the emissions not being right get the motor serviced and do the test again

Change your air filter it may look clean, but still be the problem .Take it out before the test,it will weaken the fuel mixture

go to your local halfords and get some fuel/injector cleaner get the dearest one about ten pounds pour it in to the fuel tank and give it a quick run down a moterway with the engine at high revs to clean your injectors out then take it for the mot it will pass the same thing happend with mine and a mecanic friend gave me the tip it works every time

fit a new air filter it will only take 2 mins that should solve prob and take it a small run at highish rev's for 2min's before just going in for test

sounds like your ready for a new converter and new plugs and clean and tune up the fuel injectors new air filters

    cheapest to costlyest..

    change air filter

    change plugs

    get air mixture checked.

    possible valve damage

    cat failing

    and lastly worn bores.
