With which instruments does a fair person measure?

Today as I was driving into work I was thinking about the way that drivers treat each other. Obviously, some of more respectful than others. I am sure that you, my fellow driver, have at one time or another had some other driver trying(unsuccessfully) to drive right over you. I, being a respectful driver, gaze at my odometer, and I see that I am driving at the speed limit(or slightly over it). It makes me wonder about the intentions of someone who thinks they have such a right. Why is it tolerated? Is it a reward for those pesky drivers for their inability to wake up at a reasonable time to commute to work like a civilized human being? I think that life can be thought of in much the same way. I constantly find myself checking my intentions, and I find in every instance that what I have done has in every way been fair and just. Yet I have continued, and will continue, to measure my performance regardless of the unignorable quantity of ill-treatment that I endure on a daily basis.

Many people will speed even if they're not running late for something. It's a hard wired response in every human brain to be rebellious, and car manufacturers have acknowledged this to the point where speedometers (not odometers, which record distance) have been intentionally calibrated to be a few percent below actual speed, allowing a person to believe their speeding without breaking the law.

Part of the reason we rebel is to challenge ourselves and each other to tolerate irrational, impatient, and rude behaviour, in such a way that a person who thinks themself the most considerate and respectful can be considered by others to be horrible. Truth is that no-one is perfect, just as noone is evil incarnate. We're all just doing what we believe is in our best interest, even if we know it's rude, or wrong, or not for the greatest good to the majority. Very VERY few intend to cause a 15 car pileup on the freeway, but it happens more often than it should because people think the risk of driving at over 100MpH is outweighed by the benefit of getting to work or school 15 minutes earlier.

Enjoy the wild west while it exists. Within 5 years, the police will be monitoring our cars via out GPS systems and you will get an automatic ticket for driving slightly over the speed limit, or changing lanes without a turn signal (have you seen the cameras all over the highways?)

Road rage is in it's final hour. Enjoy it while you can.

As long as you are not reactionary to their reactionary behaviour...just continue with your decent and civilized ways.

    Have a nice day!
