Most ships are named for people or places, but personal yachts in my opinion should reflect the likes of the owner. If I ever buy a real yacht, I'm going to pick a constellation in the sky. If you ever blue water sail, look up at the night sky- find one you like, then do some research to identify it, and there you go!! There is a sky full of them, not just the Zodiac ones.

Best one I've seem recently was the 28' fast trailer sailer ' Afrayed Knot'

One of my yachts is called 'Whopee' - perfectly describes the general activities on board...

A friend restored a 40 year old timber boat and named her ReBillt - his name is Bill.

Here's a site for how to name a boat. It links to thousands of boat names that you can browse through.

A good and unique name for a yacht might be Epicure, meaning one who cultivates a refined taste, a less used connotation of connoisseur.

if you have a family or partner, whatever, make a name that incorporates a bit of each of your names. we did that, are boat is called pale moon because

my mums called paula, the pa at the begining

my sister is called daniele, the le to finish off pale

my name is tom, the begining of moon backwards

and my dads name is jon, the end of moon

    therefore giving us pale moon.

The best one that I could possibly think of is, "IOWNIT".

You could separate the letters if you like so it reads I Own IT; but who would care if they were the ones that owned it.

    Source(s): I don't own it.
