Does anyone have sugggestions to control bickering in Yahoo Groups?

I moderate a group of 700+ members. Every once in a while some petty argument breaks out between a 10 or 20 members that swamps the normal group activity. I've tried posting rules, warning and baning but it keeps happening. Ideas or suggestions?

Put the bad guys on moderation and change your group settings so that first posts are moderated.

Thats a pretty large group. With one of the groups I'm in charge of we put everyone on moderation so that their posts cannot be sent out to the group until/if a group moderator approves it. It cut down on problematic postings.

You could make the entire group moderated or individuals.

Can anyone join your group or is that based on approval by the moderator? If the former then putting it on approval only will help with people rejoining under a different name to cause trouble.

not everyone is always going to agree in groups. some topics will have this more so than other groups just due to topic. if it's just bickering between members, that is a form of communication and expressing opinions. if it's an out right flame war between members with name calling and such, that's different. the thing to figure out is does the bickering actually adversely effect the other members. some times you'll loose more members by restricting their posting than to just let them have a petty indifference.

I'd think one of the ways you could maintain order is to spell suggestions thus: 'suggestions' rather than 'sugggestions'.

Same thought about 'banning' vs 'baning'.

Hard to have the group take you seriously if you come across as uneducated.
