The Human Route

Coming empty-handed, going empty-handed -- that is human.
When you are born, where do you come from?
When you die, where do you go?
Life is like a floating cloud which appears.
Death is like a floating cloud which disappears.
The floating cloud itself originally does not exist.
Life and death, coming and going, are also like that.
But there is one thing which always remains clear.
It is pure and clear, not depending on life and death.

Then what is the one pure and clear thing?

Your logic is false--the elements which make that "floating cloud" have always been there going through the process which are caused by the fudamental forces of nature.  From that perspective your poem says the buddists are correct.  Have a great day.

I am sorry that your religion causes you to belittle living so.

The human route includes love and kindness and charity and joy and happiness.  Just because we didn't exist before or after those events and emotions, doesn't mean they cease to have meaning.  On the contrary, the finite nature of living makes those things incredibly valuable and worthwile.

1000 years from now nobody will know me or who I was, but RIGHT NOW, my kids love me and I love my kids, I am good to my neighbors and friends and even people I don't know.  I have the ability to make present life an incredibly meaningful and wonderful thing.  

THAT is the one pure and clear thing.
