My Arm Still Hurts Sometimes?

I fell on the ice around Feb. 27th and landed on my shoulder and thigh. I had a big bruise on my leg but there wasn't any pain. I went to the emergency room on March 4th about my shoulder and he said it was probably just muscles and if they did an x-ray it wouldn't show up anyway. Didn't have an x-ray. He said I'd be o.k. in a couple of weeks but it's been a month. Should I go back to the doctor? It hurts worse in the morning and at night. I can move it and stuff but it hurts bringing my arm around my back and lowering my arm.

Update:

Both replies sound helpful. I am going to wait another week and see if my arm heals. It said on one of the websites that it might be a rotor cuff injury. I don't know....

It sounds like you sustained a acromioclavicular joint sprain, or (sprained shoulder). What you must figure out is what grade sprain you have, 1, 2, or 3. Grade 2 tends to take six to eight weeks to recover. While a more serious grade 3 could take up to four weeks, but if your an athlete it could take three to five months of rehabilitation so you don't re-injure it. Try ibuprofen, motrin, or tylenol to relieve some pain and inflammation, a sling may be required, as well as therapy. If all else fails you might need surgery. Hope you feel better.

Definitely go back, there could have been a hairline fracture before which is why it would not have showed up on an x-ray.

Same thing happened to me with my wrist and i went in the day after. they only said it was a sprain, but then i waited a year before i went in and it ended up being completely fractured and the bone had started dissolving right away.
