what does this phrase/saying mean?

I just finished reading Sam Lipsyte's book, "Home Land" and there is one character ("Daddy Miner") who is always saying to his son "Gravy boat, stay in the now!" I think I'd like to use this phrase in the essay I have to write about the book but I have absolutely no clue what it means. I googled it but all I can find is blogs with that title... So if it's a real phrase, please let me know what it means and its context. But if it isn't real (just something made up by the author), please tell me possible interpretations. Thanks!

Literally "gravy boat" is the piece of china that hold the gravy for table service.

Figuratively, it could mean, riches, something good,

"Stay in the now," means stay in the present. Don't worry about the past or the future, but concern yourself with what is happening right now.

i believe it is referring to the existentialist philosophy, perhaps best expressed by Baba Ram Dass (Dr. Richard Alpert, former Harvard professor and contemporary and friend of Dr. Timothy Leary of LSD fame) in his book "Be Here Now."

it means do not dwell in the past, worrying over things that cannot be changed, nor concern yourself with thoughts of the future, worrying over what might or will be. instead, live life to the fullest, enjoying everything in the present.

Stay in the now means don't go talking about the past, or fretting about the future, concentrate on the present.
