How can I put more weight on my kitten?

My kitten, Radar (named after Radar O'Reilly from M*A*S*H because he was the smallest in the litter), doesn't seem to be gaining weight. He'll be a year old in April, and he's just so thin! He gets a high-quality dry cat food, and I suppliment with some wet food (Friskies, but it was free from a friend so I can't complain), but he doesn't seem to gain anything. I had him at the vet last summer for shots, declaw, and neuter (the neuter didn't get done because his testicles hadn't descended, so that's yet to be done), and his tests came back clear. His next vet visit will be coming up in a couple months. He's never been outside, so I doubt he's picked anything up. HIs energy level is completely normal; he tears through the house, loves to cuddle, and is a complete momma's boy, lol. And he walks all over my dogs (literally). But I just don't know what else I can do to put weight on him. Any suggestions?

Update:

Like I said, the dry food he's on is a high quality food. He's only on the wet Friskies because I got it free from a friend. I'm well aware that it's not the highest quality, but then again, neither is anything from Science Diet. I doubt he'll get much bigger height-wise, but I do hope he puts on a bit more weight.

Update 2:

I'm quite positive that he is a male, as are the vet and the tech that did his declaw and would have done his neuter, as well as the other vet tech that works there. If you had read the question, it stated that he will be a year old in April, so that would make him 11.5 months old. He looks to be either a DSH or a DSH/DMH cross.

A good name and a great show!

He's possibly thin because he's not been wormed, this is something that needs doing every three months.

It could also be other parasites internally as well.

Why not take him to the vets now for his vaccinations and have him checked over thoroughly to be sure it's nothing more serious.

He can get the worms inside the house quite easily, from food and anything such as a mouse he may find

The vet can recommend a good food for you to put the weight on if he thinks it's needed, perhaps he's just a small cat though.

  • buying him the right kind of food will help but if he's naturally small nothing is going to change that

frankly friskies is not really the greatest food,

buy natural balance or blue buffalo or Halo or Hill Science or Pet Promise cat food they have specially formulated food to help a cat or kitten get everything they need

you can order the food off the internet

How old is your cat? Are you quite certain he is male? What breed is your cat? The answers to these questions all play a role in determining wether you need to worry. 8 month old american short hairs should weigh six to eight pounds. That is a lithe cat. Female cats are usually smaller than male cats.

Have him tested for parasites! Almost all cats and dogs are born with worms. These worms and other parasites live on the intestinal wall, therefore taking all the nutrients away from the animal.
