A gun is just a tool. It is not an explosive.

When it's loaded with live ammo, it's a dangerous tool.

When the gun is loaded, armed, the safety off, and a human being (or accident) causes the trigger to be pulled, it is a dangerous explosive system.

Join the NRA or some other educational group and get training, before having anything to do with guns.

The gun itself does not explode. The explosion occurs only in the bullet. The gun has a hammer that hits the bullet. The action of that hammer on the bullet triggers a reaction inside the bullet to release heat and burn up the gunpowder. As the gunpowder burns up it creates immense pressure and fires off the bullet head.

So the gun itself isn't an explosive but the bullet can be considered one with the right detonator (the gun in this case).

The definition of explosion is "An accelerated combustion process" and that is exactly what happens, you may see it different because the time in which the combustion occurs is infinitesimally small but if you could film it in very retarded motion you probably will see the combustion happening. furthermore the condition for any object to be an explosive is that it must be a combustible, and a combustible is something that burns, so the gun itself made of steel will not burn, there may be an exception with the guns made from carbon fiber or new resins I don,t know exactly their behavior under those conditions.

That is a homework for me.
