Could you please define 'Christian'?

I know what I personally believe the definition to be, but I am curious to see what responses I get on here. I don't mean what you have to do, wear, say etc. I just mean define the root word of Christianity.

The term Christianity came from the Derivative, Christ. Obviously, because they believe in the teachings of one Jesus man.

This phrase really did not come about until the great Schism, when there became two sects of Christianity. Before that, there was only Catholicism, a word which means "Universal".

Soon, with additions and subtractions of the Creed by Luther, Calvin, and even the addition of Anglicism by King Henry the 8th, there were several sects.

With the split from the Catholics, and the newly formed Protestant sects, there needed to be a way to unite them...rather that separate them further. I am not sure who coined the term, or when...but I know that it did not come into wide use until Post-Luther days.

What dose it mean to be A true Christian

A high majority of so-called Christians are, in fact, living a deceived life. They talk Jesus and play church, but do not live it. They claim to be Christians and then live like the devil. They have bought the great lie from Satan who tells them that they are alright. He tells them that it is alright to go to church on Sunday and attend mid-week services but as far as the rest of the time is concerned, they are to get all they can out of life. As far as their Christian life is concerned, they believe they are comfortable and have need of nothing and as a result, they are only lukewarm Christians if Christians at all. These are they who are truly not consider to be a Christian. What is a True Christian, A True Follower Of Jesus Christ, is a True Christian. They are they that keep his Commandments and Follow his Example to love Ever one and to do good at all times in there Lives. This is what it means to be a Christian, A True Christian. For those who claim to be Christians, they are supposed to be ambassadors for Christ here on earth. One cannot have any true witness or power in his life unless that one lives his Christian faith at all times, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. To be a true Christian one must live it, not just talk it. To honor God with your lips and your heart .Those who accept the responsibility of teaching, preaching, or any leadership role have much for which to answer. So what do you consider your self to be, A Christian a true follower of Jesus Christ. Or a true Follower of the Devil. for ye cannot serve both, ye are either for the one or the other, For my self I am a True Christian. And I do put the teaching of the Lord into my life each and ever day. and great are the Blessing that the Lord gives unto me .for following his example. As well there are many who gives warning to the world to the dangers that are abroad and many scoff at these truths, and in the end they are destroyed why because the heed not the warning. Like As it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the days of the coming of the son of man. Humans took no thought of what Noah was saying nor did humans believe that anything was about to change. Humanity could see the storm clouds over the horizon, but yet did not believe the rain was imminent. Notice the close parallel today. Humanity can see all the signs of the last days, yet humanity does not believe that anything will change. He does not believe in the impending Destruction of our world and he dose not believe in the coming of our Lord and he does not prepare to meet God." Why because of there pride, They think that they know better. With out even knowing the truth. those that make Judgment to something with out knowing the truth. are Lost souls , For they Look not to know if it be true, AND IN THE END THEY ARE DISTROYED .Pride the cause of so much destruction. Amen

    Follower of christ.

Basically imagine three different monotheistic religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Christians follow the teachings of Christ, and his view of god.

Muslims follow the teachings of Muhammad (I know there is some sort of epithet here, but I don't know it. I still respect though!)

Jews follow the original base form of the religion islam and christianity derived from.

In the end they are all variations of the same thing, which is why I have never understood Religious Wars.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

    born of the virgin Mary,

    suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died and was buried.

    He descended into hell.

The third day He rose again from the dead.

    He ascended into heaven

and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    the holy Christian Church,

    the communion of saints,

    the forgiveness of sins,

    the resurrection of the body,

    and the life everlasting.

Its questionable at best if he did in fact decend into hell, so I wouldnt include that in there.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

    Amen.

That's the The Nicene Creed. It was composed in part and adopted at the First Council of Nicea ( A.D., 325) and revised with additions by the First Council of Constantinople (A.D. 381). It was developed by the Church when they were first legalized under Emperor Constantine and needed to come up with a definition of what (and who) is "Christian". It is a creed that summarises the orthodox faith of the Christian Church and is used in the liturgy of most Christian Churches.

Actually christin today is simply a person who believes the bible to be their scriptures and holds some sort of faith in jesus christ of those scriptures.

in the past 'Christian' was the initial name they were given by non believers, meaning more so 'the party of the anointed one', or like 'those people who think they have the anointed one'

    To be Christ like.

    John 14:20

At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

It is the equivalent of enlightenment by understanding and experiencing the unity of all things.

It has been hijacked by an alien theology of judgment and separation, and has become to dangerous to explore due to the lack of rational practitioners.

    Atheist with Buddhist tendencies.

It basically means a follower of Christ. (That's follower, not just believer. Even the unclean spirits believed).
