Could someone please define atheism?
I ask this because an answer I gave recently was quite disliked by the atheist community. (I think). So now I am thinking that I need to broaden my perspective on what atheism really is. I believe that it's more than not believing there is a god, but what else does it entail?
Please, everyone be fair. I am asking because while I might not agree with them, I will not say that they are wrong!!
17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoIs it possible that the 'virgin birth' was a case of undiagnosed parthenogenesis?
I admit that I am watching an old episode of House, but he just diagnosed a virgin birth and called it parthenogenesis and me being curious, I looked it up and it exists. That many years ago, no one would have known what that was.
**of course just now, before posting this, House admits that it wasn't true but still????**
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhen I say 'Oh my god', and I have made it clear that I don't believe in your god....?
How is that me using your god's name in vain? I am literally saying 'Oh MY god.'
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it possible to ask a question about a faith other than Christianity and not have Christians answer with....?
Go to Jesus, you must accept God, no that religion is wrong, you must become one of the flock in order to live happily or any other scripture quoting, we are right and they are wrong kind of answers. I mean absolutely no disrespect by this question, I am seriously enquiring why we can't get answers that are simply answers to the questions asked and not ones that imply we are morons for believing differently.
Thanks in advance and blessed be to all who take the time to answer, especially to the ones who take it seriously.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow many Christians condone what was being done in the documentary........?
Jesus Camp?
I just watched this documentary and went into it with a completely open mind. I have to admit that it scared the crap out of me. Not because I am not Christian but because I really couldn't see what the difference was between what minister Becky was doing and what she claimed that the followers of Islam do, well besides the hand grenades perhaps. Having the children standing on the steps of government buildings like that just didn't seem right to me.
Keep in mind that I used the word condone more as a 'how many of you would send your kids there' than a 'how many of you would allow this to happen if you could stop it' kind of way.
Thanks in advance for all of your answers, I am really curious to see how fundamentalist those people were in comparison to the rest of us.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can Christians verbally bash people and then claim that they follow the 'thou shalt not judge' rule?
I only ask this because regardless of your beliefs on atheism (for example) and regardless of where in your faith they come from, you verbally bashing any of them, even in retaliation, seems like a judgement call to me. You telling the pagans and the homosexuals that they are going to hell also seems like a judgement call. I understand you want to 'save' us and 'bring us to the light' but I also thought that the only judging that could be done would and should be done by God himself therefore aren't you taking upon yourself the job of God?
Forgive me if this question has been posed before but I have come across some new avatars tonight and I am curious what they will have to say for themselves.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo any of the Pagans out there get nervous when someone asks them for a lighter?
For all the tolerance that is supposed to be out there these days, do you really think that we are any more understood or accepted now than we were in the burning times?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat does the acronym, WWJS mean?
I was told by xLDS Elder Bishop that I was ignorant and that I should educate myself, so I thought I would ask the question. I was politely telling that person that I was sorry I could not answer his question and even though my answer was chosen as best answer (?), it was made known to me and anyone reading the resolved questions, that I was ignorant in this matter. Therefore, could someone educate me so that if the question is asked again, I will be able to answer it.
Thanks in advance.
14 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan someone please tell me the differences in the following statements?
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
And it harm none, do as ye will.
That's it, just want to know the differences between them so I will have a better understanding of how people think on here.
Thanks
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCould you please define 'Christian'?
I know what I personally believe the definition to be, but I am curious to see what responses I get on here. I don't mean what you have to do, wear, say etc. I just mean define the root word of Christianity.
24 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy is it that the Bible is not meant to be taken literally?
I understand that this has been asked before on here and will probably be asked again, but honestly I just didn't find an answer that satisfied me.
I understand that faith can sometimes be about interpretation, but most of the people that I have managed to have this conversation with have really made it sound like it is blind faith that leads Christians to believe in the truth of the Bible. I am not Christian, in case you hadn't guessed, but I am really curious as to why so much of the Bible is open to interpretation.
Any serious and honest answers would be appreciated. You cannot be wrong when you are stating your opinion.
Blessed Be
30 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy are people only willing to 'believe what they see' and not the other way around?
When it comes to the paranormal, most people say that they don't believe because they haven't seen but for most other things in life they take for granted that it exists or not based on what they have been told. Just looking for some opinions, not for people to tell me I am crazy lol
