When I say 'Oh my god', and I have made it clear that I don't believe in your god....?

How is that me using your god's name in vain? I am literally saying 'Oh MY god.'

Update:

Let me just add here that I do in fact have a god, just not the christian god and I am not trying to justify something I say that may offend others, I am not overly concerned about that (as harsh as that may sound), I simply want to understand the logic behind a non believer not being able to use a phrase that does not have the same connotations that it does to a believer.

OMG, that is totally a good point, BTW.

I just see it as a phrase of astonishment. It's not cursing or damning anything or saying we have a horrible world or anything like that. Usually I think we should be sensitive to the beliefs of others, but I don't see how this could be offensive.

If you don't believe in God then you are not bound by God's rules. Still, you will reap what you sow.

Gal 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Gal 6:8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

You are a complete idiot. Other people have different beliefs. By saying oh MY god, you could be referring to any mainstream myth, or a lie of your own creation. They are all equally false, including your jesus.

Excellent point. It's not taking someone else's god's name in vain. :)

Mind if I use borrow your logic in the future?

Why don't you say Oh my self, since you are your own god.

Isn't it funny how people always want to justify themselves when they say things that offend others?

Based on your sentence, "Oh" is your god. And you have made it clear that you don't believe in the other god which is not "Oh".

Now it is a typo that it should be "O" rather than "Oh" ?
