I thought tyre blankets were banned?

Yet they seem to be on every tyre before a car goes out. When was this decision revised? Was it because the cars wouldn't be safe when the tyres were relatively cold?

tyre blankets aren't banned, just lots of teams brought in a new system that monitors and keeps them at a more steady temperature. the blankets are really important because if the temperature drops, so does level of grip, which would mean we would see nothing but cars flying off the road.
