If you were a retiring scientist...?

And you'd done enough research of your own to not only convince yourself of human-caused global warming, but also that we were way past all the important tipping points, that you agreed with James Lovelock that we should just enjoy life while we can, and that the rest of the world would also be better off giving up and enjoying life...

Would you take a massive cash 'donation' from a fossil fuel giant to publicly deny human-caused global warming to then help you (and your family) enjoy life??

One of my collaborators is retiring this year and the only thing that matters to her going forward is grandchildren. Another friend, an eminent cancer researcher is now in his mid eighties. He is focused on his trans generational legacy and is trying to make every one of his few years left count and is now developing an inexpensive diagnostic test. This year I am hiring a nephew to work in my lab in hopes that he continues my scientific legacy when I retire. Scientists are generally more motivated by honor than money. Otherwise they would work for AIG where money is king and morals don't count. No, most scientists would not take a massive cash 'donation' to compromise their legacy, but there are always a few bad apples.

Just out of curiosity, do you work for Exxon and how much are you offering? ;->

I wouldn't, but there may be a few on both sides of the GW issue who would.

As Dana mentioned, Lindzen may like the attention gotten by being a skeptic just as James Hansen likes the attention he gets by manipulating data and keeping the "Man-did-it" global warming cause alive.

Well considering that most if not all of the pro AGW science crowd are so sloppy in their procedural work that they would never be able to even get a bus boy job a McDonald's they had better grab what they can from anybody that will give it because no one else will pay them.

So in essence what you are saying is that these scientists do not care about humanity, their children and grandchildren. They purposely mislead people, thus delaying action, killing hundreds of millions if not billions, but yet they still a good conscious to be able to sleep at night. I do not think so.

People who speak out against global warming are scientists who are offended by the modern notion of science principles. Were simulated computer models (given as absolute definitive proof) take precedence over real world observations. They are offended by scientists who manipulate science to further a political cause.

I am seventy and a full time working scientist.

I have no intention of doing any such thing. There is always hope that we may come out ahead.

Personally no, because that's dishonest and unethical. Plus what if you're wrong, it actually wasn't too late, except your actions helped delay action in addressing global warming?

Frankly I think many of the 'skeptical' scientists like Richard Lindzen mostly like the attention they get from being controversial. I mean, who would know Lindzen's name if he wasn't a global warming skeptic? I think Lindzen likes the infamy, which is why he's intellectually dishonest (for example, see link below).

No actual scientist could come to that ridiculous conclusion. That is political propaganda and only naive young non scientific types would fall for it. The others are just radical socialists and believe it because they are blaming the right people.

If that were the case, then yes.

    I mean, no.
