I have had three cats for the past six years....?

The oldest, my girl cat, I found on my doorstep when she was about eight months old starving to death. She's a Hemingway cat.

The other two are boy cats and I "rescued" both of them from bad situations when they were very young, maybe 6 - 8 weeks.

They all get along great.

At night, one of the boy cats sleeps on the sofa. My girl cat sleeps next to my pillow or on my pillow next to my head and my other boy cat sprawls out on top of me or stretches himself out and sleeps right up next to me.

Every night there's obligatory petting of the girl cat until she lays down. The boy cat who sprawls out on my (he's about 19 pounds but, thin) wont sleep until I put my arm around him.

They're well socialized cats who enjoy company and who have an active indoor only life with lots of toys and distractions.

So my questions:

1. Is this normal cat behavior?

2. Why does the other boy cat sleep on the sofa and not in bed with the rest of us?

3. Why do the other two sleep so close to me?

You have almost the same situation as mine..lol My male cat was rescued by my dog when he was a kitten, and he is severely attached to her she cleans him and everything but at night he must be pet till he lays down usually above my head... my youngest female cat was a rescue from the shelter by a friend who then couldn't keep her she has to sleep in the crook of my elbow or behind my knees..under the covers :) , but my oldest cat prefers to sleep in the dog bed or on the dresser...they all have their own weird but wonderful personalities....and routines...cats thrive on their routine and it was mainly my doing for these as this is what we did when they were kittens..so its what the know and trust.now my oldest she is just stuck up.but really I had her when i was younger(shes 14 now) and she lived with me and my parents and 2 siblings so she learned where she is most comfortable.she does her own thing haha...But to your question it is perfectly normal...the cats love and trust you and thrive on the routine and love you have given them..its okay that the boy sleeps on the couch as he seems to not need the close interaction to feel safe...hope this helps and you sound to have a wonderful cat family.

The sofa cat may feel that there are enough cats on the bed already. I have one like that. He likes to sleep on the bed but only when he's the only animal there, so most of the time he sleeps somewhere else. Or he may just not have the need for as much contact as the other two cats. All sounds perfectly normal to me. Cats are all different.

I would say they sleep so close to you because they love and trust you. And the other one might just like that spot.

its just their personality.....its normal. Like humans we sleep where we want to....for example im like the cat that sleeps on the couch...i hate to cuddle...lol its gross, but i dont sleep on the couch..lol but the other two cat just like to cuddle.
