Where is Max in Angels & Demons movie?
I've read Dan Brown's novel Angels and Demons 3 times now. Actually, I've read all of his novels. So when the info about the movie became available online, I checked it out right away. And I was surprised not to see Maximilian Kohler among the characters.
Is it an error on the part of the website? Or is the movie a little or whole lot different from the novel?

The movie is significantly different from the book (which I just read again). Ron Howard said that in making DaVinci Code they stayed too closely to the novel, which adversely affected the action of the film. This time they felt at liberty to change.
They're making A&D a sequel to DaVinci rather than a prequel, so Langdon is a more experienced adventurer. They're spending less time at CERN, and thus Max is out. They've also changed the antimatter in some way, after talking to scientists. Beyond this info, I don't want to know anything until I see the film.

I've got about 100 pages left in the book so I don't know yet if Kohler is a crucial character. It is entirely possible that his character was written out of the screen play in an attempt to pare down the story for the big screen.
From what I've read so far (his helicopter has just landed), Kohler is not an essential character. So far he hasn't done anything that is absolutely essential to the story - except call Langdon in the beginning and that could be handled differently.
It's also possible that IMDb doesn't have the complete credit listings yet.
