What are primers (if you can find them) selling for in your area?
My kids went to a local gun show today. they decided to be nice and pick me up some stuff. They bought a 1000 round box of federal large pistol mag primers and paid $65.00!!! ( I don't use them, but the thought was nice). They said they had some there for $120.00 per thousand!!!. Also found out they allowed local businesses to go in friday night before the show opened on saturday and buy up all the primers and powder. Talk about ripping off the public. so, anyway, what area are you in, and what are they selling for there?

I have to be honest. My hunting partner and I split the bill for reloading. We both have 44 mag Rugers, and I use a Marlin on white tail. We generally buy all our stuff in a big order to get a good deal, and I haven't bought in a while.
Last year, he bought primers for about 30 bucks a 1000. I think you can get the same cci primers for about 22 bucks on line, but the cost to ship is high due to some regulation with explosives such as primers.
It seems that unless you buy 5000 or more, it may be better to buy from a store that gets a boat load.
Anyhow its been a while, but I think 30 to 35 bucks is reasonable. I have never bought any other primer than cci, even for shot shells. I thing mag primers are more, but I don't know why you would use them. I have always used standard primers, and never had a problem. Mag primers are for high pressure loads, and require a special recipe to avoid undue pressure. It is possible that federal magnum primers run that much, but WOW.
I live in Connecticut. The tax you to death state.

Pfff... I haven't seen or heard of primer availability where I live. I personally don't reload but I know someone who not only does reloading but that's all he uses. So he asks for me to get him brass when I go to the range alone as I can be a brass hound but I do make sure to ask before I take. He bought a lot of primers for several of his calibers (can't reload .22LR) awhile back but he hasn't been able to find any for 2 months or so. Or so he says. But I do know that primers are hard to come by so I'm not surprsied by gouging.
