    Anime Survey

    ===============================

    1) In honor of Easter… Name a few anime/manga series that have religious themes.

    Well, I have yet to watch or read an anime or manga in which religion is a major theme, but there are some where it has been a minor (very minor) theme.

    Naruto did have the theme of religion for the character Hidan - how he worshipped his God so much and how strictly he followed his religion.

    I know there was mention of religion in the first volume of Fullmetal Alchemist - of course, the religion was a phony one but they still talked a bit about their beliefs and such (to my memory).

    Gintama also has mentioned religion a few times, but it's mostly just mockery. *cough* Like the spoof of FMA they did. XP

    Many have said Death Note and I will have to agree to some degree. Light creates his own religion pretty much in which he gets several people to worship him. Technically though, it was not a real religion therefore it couldn't have really been all that religious.

    I'm also pretty sure The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya mentions religion a few times. Haven't been watching it lately so I don't really remember. o-o

    The manga Innocent Bird also had mention of religion - in fact, I would say it was a major theme. It has the whole Angel vs. Demons thing in it.

    *cough*

    I think that's enough for now. ^-^

    I would though, very much like to read a manga with a good plot that revolves around religion. XP

    2) In which series do the characters celebrate (or imply that they celebrate) religious holidays?

    Well, in almost every series they celebrate New Years (especially amongst shojo).

    In both Lovely Complex and High School Debut, they celebrate Christmas and New Years.

    Ouran High School Host Club, Pretty Face (this is a shonen), Monkey High, etc. are all examples of where religous holdiays are celebrated. It seems that religious holidays are generally mentioned in shoujo manga and anime over other genres - maybe because most shoujo is the high school romance that is semi realistic. ^-^

    3) Give an example of an anime/manga series that utilizes symbolism. What could the symbols represent, and how is this usage significant to the series?

    VERY interesting question! ^-^

    Yay!

    I never really think of searching for the symbols while reading or watching manga and anime but there are indeed some. XP

    I'm trying to think of a good example...though, reading everyone else's answers didn't help. XP

    1) In honor of Easter… Name a few anime/manga series that have religious themes.

    Neon Genesis Evangelion, not because any of the creators are christian or wanted a grand metaphor. They just thought Christianity was a "cool and exotic" religion.

    2) In which series do the characters celebrate (or imply that they celebrate) religious holidays?

    In the Haruhi books and second season coming up, they celebrate Tanabata.

    3) Give an example of an anime/manga series that utilizes symbolism. What could the symbols represent, and how is this usage significant to the series?

    A lot of characters have eyes that slant inwards instead of sloping outwards. It usually shows a tsundere or tsukkomi character. That's not very good, I know. But it's all I could think of.

    4) Why does L (Death Note) like sweets so much? O.o”””””

    Because they are tasty.

    Who?

    I don't like The Fray.

    1) In honor of Easter… Name a few anime/manga series that have religious themes.

    ===> Chrno Crusade...and it's pretty sad too =(

    2) In which series do the characters celebrate (or imply that they celebrate) religious holidays?

    ===> Hmm guessing that Christmas counts, then I can name a few: Haruhi, Cardcaptor Sakura, Full Moon wo Sagashite, and a bunch of other animes xD

    3) Give an example of an anime/manga series that utilizes symbolism. What could the symbols represent, and how is this usage significant to the series?

    ==> Gahh this is hard.

    I think in Code Geass, the paper crane has some sort of symbol. I think it symbolizes Lelouch's promise to Nunally. And that's important to the show because he started the revolution to make the world a better place for Nunally.

    4) Why does L (Death Note) like sweets so much? O.o”””””

    ==> Because he's cool like that xD haha idk

    But, why wouldn't he like sweets? Sweets are awesome ^___^

    And maybe...they help him think? xD

    magikano they celebrate christmas

    Death note symbolize light and dark (no pun intended)

    L has to have such sugary sweets to take away from the bad taste left in his mouth by all of the psycho paths he deals with on a day to day base
