Somethings stuck and i have no idea what it is!?

Whenever i put my clutch in when driving my revs go up????

I can't understand why!I'm not touching the accelerator and as soon as i go back in to a gear the revs stop ... it's really embarrassing at the traffic lights cos people think i'm some kind of boy racer!!! The revs go really high, even if i've only been crawling along at 10mph and the car seems to want to pull away from me!

I drive a 1998 ford Ka, please help as i want to have some idea of what it is before i go to a garage as they seem to take some kind of pride in ripping me off! Thankyou!

Try using an auto- tune type technician. They often will quote a fixed price for a tune up. This way you won't get rippd off.

It may just need a, idle adjustment, or - more likely, they will find a sensor that has gone faulty. If that is the case, find out exactly which one it is - and buy it yourself. THEN use a garage to fit it - or ask nice mr tune guy to do it.

You only get ripped off by not knowing what the problem is. Quite often garages just start putting new parts on and hoping - and then stick you with a large bill.

    Right diagnosis is the key.

Your TPS (throttle position sensor) must be stuck or sticking. or if your car is throttle body injected, the throttle body could be stuck. also check your idle speed. tell them to check your TPS, throttle body (if your car has one), and your idle. and tell them you want proof on paper of the results of each test. idle shouldnt be over 1000 RPM. make sure you at least sound like you know what youre doing before you tell them "fix my car." Garages like to rip off women because they think they dont know anything about cars. and that really pisses me off! I know tons of women (my fiance included) who could drag a 1970 Ford Pinto out from under a scrap pile and get it running in a day! and on the other hand, i know a hell of a lot of guys who dont even know how to fill a car with gas

The motor is idling too high, when it's in gear it slows down. There is a part that controls it that needs to be adjusted or replaced. As far as these things go,it isn't that big a deal.
