If there were no media to get the word out...?
Would you know by looking around you that something is amiss? I would. Our lake is 40 ft low for the 2nd time in 5 yrs. They sky always has a brown tinge at the horizon (and I live in a rural community!) and there are warning signs posted stating the fish in the lakes and streams in my entire state are not safe to eat.

Speed and type of communication has evolved to a level that certainly in my life time has revolutionised what we recieve, when, how often and from whom. Our ability to process this information however has not increased to match the data flow. People will tend to therefore use personal framing to reference this data and will tend to 'react' if they feel they are going to lose personally from the incoming data. Your experience is clearly important to you, the signs are clear and I would suggest that living in a rural area the signals are easier to see. Unfortunately the majority of people live in the cities where the micro-climate does not produce the signals.
As long as their power supply continues, their water comes out of the tap, food is in the shops, the gas station has fuel and their waste disappears then all must be well so ignore the signs, continue as normal, no worries...until.

If you're observant enough you can see effects like spring coming earlier, some species migrations changing, etc., as discussed in the book 'Early Spring'.

But personally I'm not that observant!

None of those things probably have much to do with global warming though--or are you just talking about environmental problems in general?

I wouldn't need to look around.
I work in Meteorology, and alongside Climatologists, so have all the info available to me.
