What should I expect from taking Lisinopril for high blood pressure?

I have been prescribed one 40mg tablet once a day. I can hardly walk. I keep feeling like I'm going to pass out. My doctor said that he would write me a "letter of disability" if my body didn't adapt to this new drug. Am I that bad off?

Update:

I just might be taking too much if I can barely walk.

My husband and my best friend both had the same symptoms from that drug. My friend passed out cold, hitting head first on the floor. My husband was tired all the time and dizzy. Both stopped taking the drug, and feel much better. I take my husband's blood pressure to check out how he's doing, and so far, it went up some, but not enough for him to ever want that drug again, and he was taking 20 mg. And he's a big guy.

So check out lowering the dosage with your doc.

Sounds like the lisinopril is working too well, and you are becoming hypotensive. I do not know why you are on this medication and this can very much influence how much of it you should take, but 40 mg is a pretty solid dose of it. I would suggest that if these symptoms persist, inquire with your primary care physician about if you can move to a lower dose or a different medication.

I wouldn't see why you could not take a multi vitamin with it. Word of caution, I was on lisinopril and I thought it was my lifesaver. It was only $7.15 a month with my insurance and did wonders with my BP, til I started having a dry, hacking cough all the time and slept with a bottle of water. I found out from my health insurance pharmacy consultation service that a dry cough is the leading side effect of lisinopril.
