Does the ego exist in reality or just a make believe that everything revolve around “me”?

Thank you for responding.

One's ego is that aspect of one's baser self that says, as would a petulant child, "I am the center of the universe!" and is the basis for the "I, me, mine" attitude that excludes others as though they and all else were truly separate from one's self.

In reality, each one is part of all other ones as each is the manifestation of the Universal/One that is the energy that brought all into existence, that enlivens and fills all.

Our purpose is to learn to live in harmony with this energy, that is will all else that exist in such a manner so as to be beneficial to all else and to one's self.

The ego, then, is the illusion of the separate self which, in reality, does not exist.

    Namaste.

The ego exists conceptually, but in my opinion it's believing it exists with any substance that would strengthen it. It is as negligible as thought itself. Thought churns away but you have no obligation to give it any attention.

They say it's caring what other people think that is what an ego is and that you can go find a guru somewhere that will teach you how to bypass the ego for a happy life (ridiculous). Caring about what other people think and caring about whether or not you care are two different things.

I think that all this searching for ways to get past yourself is really a denial of who you really are. A vulnerable person intimately linked to the rest of the world. This enlightenment and ego stuff is really looking for numbness from life, instead of connecting to it. There are millions of people who will tell you how to live, but really living is the most simple thing summed up in 3 words "just do it".

Reality is the only thing we can know and it includes illusion within it. Even illusion is reality. Actuality is something else altogether.

In my opinion, the ego does exist, it is the pleasure principle that tells us when we really want something, to go get it regardless etc. It does usually revolve around the person in question, yes, and makes the person a bit selfish and self-centred. Its not make believe, its a case of being able to control the ego somehow and know when to be realistic and more thoughtful about something...

I think the ego is an illusion made up of images of having a body, space and what is not your body. Then there are images of all kinds that fit into that basic dichotomy of what is you and not you.

But I also think that God is the only being and Reality that exists. He's an infinite individual that gives existence to an innumerable amount of individuals, or souls, that then create their egos. However, every soul is God in every respect. Every soul is the only one that exists and is the center of His creation, literally.

Reality is a massive paradox to our rational minds that can't be understood using thought. Thought has to be transcended and Truth realized with consciousness.

I believe the ego was invented when our spiritual form felt weak and scared for some reason and needed a more tangible thing to grasp on.

Yes I believe it exists in the reality we have entered but it is by choice.

Generally, it is a fiction. But it can be used as a tool to make it align itself to reality rather its own make believe kingdom-a sand mansion on the seashore!Ego dwelling in its fantasy spells doom, ego serving the dictates of the being ushers in peace and love.

Yes the ego does exist but it is inflated with the wrong gas. It should be simple and un-vain. Not complicated and subtly superior.

It is useful in times of action and defence. But should deflate back into humility when it's not needed.

There is only one you, and it's source is like energy. Then it depends upon how you focus your attention and use your energy as source.

With 'ego', your focus of energy is in putting your energy into thinking and feeling, then with your attention like this, it creates the sense of a 'me'. It's like being trapped in thought and feeling, and reaction. you think something, it makes you feel something, then you do something based on all that, and then you think another thought, etc. it goes round and round like this, like a hamster running in a circle, so it's like your source energy is trapped in the world created from your thoughts.

Then reality is whatever you think and feel it to be, it's like being in a never-ending dream world. you can easily change reality, by thinking something else. yet, as source you can take your focus out of the dream, but focusing on something else besides thought. simple one is just feeling your breathing.

Freud made that one up. That we are selfish, that is evident.
