How can I get a camcorder video onto my computer?

I used a Sony digital 8 camcorder to record a video (onto a tape). Is there any way to get this onto my pc?

Frankie is going up the wrong path here, you do not need any form of capture card for a digital transfer.

You DO need a firewire connection and you can capture directly into Windows movie maker.

Yes, you can use a transfer card or capture card. A lot of people use dazzles for this and recording themselves playing ps3 or xbox. you can buy a usb one at walmart. In fact i just bought one and it is being shipped so it should be here soon. here is the one i bought http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_... but you have to use a coax cable and connect it to your T.V. then play the video on the T.V. and use the software that comes with the capture card to record it. I will be converting all my old VHS to DVD. The good thing about the one i showed you is that by using coax you can record HD if your camcorder is in HD and if you buy a dazzle you will get the regular 480p resolution.

Yes. Use a firewire cable and import the video yourself using a video capture program.

Or use a video transfer service and have them transfer your digital8 tape for you. StashSpace.Com does this for $6.95 a tape and you can edit online or get back the file(s) on dataDVD or portable hard drive.
