Kicking off the mud, a poem to critique?

We trudge through the

sludge of the day.

It's universal,

the great equalizer,

like death.

No one is above it

or excluded,

because

the mud on our heels

is called life.

Be it workmen's steel-toed leather boots

or 4 inch high heeled red stilettos,

black wing-tipped dress oxfords,

unlaced Nike's with treads,

Croc's or beach flip flops.

It's all in how we

kick the mud off

and take the

next step

again.

Update 2:

If my pen were a hammer, by God,

this is the song I would hope to sing.

It's a clever poem showing obvious skill. My problem is that on first reading, it seemed a little depressing although you give a general summary at the end. Of course, the first stanza accurately describes reality. Maybe I just want more fantasy in real life! Your visual images work but everything can be improved..Right? Trying to be as helpful as possible...

I give my 4 inch stilletos an xtra shake ma so the mud goes everywhere. And I'm not afraid to take them heels off and squish my toes in it either!

My mother-in-law, a half Pottawatomie Indian woman, (God rest her soul) used to say..."If you're walking right, the mud on your shoes is clean dirt"...

    so true

    Love it!

Choices, choices, choices....everything is about what choice we make in each moment in how to deal with our mud.

*bare feet* I just wash em off. ;)

  • and that next step when we reach it

    interminably large

    and the overwhelming

    reluctance

    to take it...

    is the next step

    directing us to

    our destiny
