why do people hunt snakes...?

why would someone hunt snakes in pa, i mean i know they have to buy a permit and all this and that, but why would you want to. can you eat them, or have them stuffed, or keep them as pets.

Update:

well yeah, i understand that, but someone would have to have different reason to buy a permit and then your only legally allowed to take one over 42"

A permit to hunt snakes? That's a new one on me. Never heard of such. I have no idea why someone would want to hunt a snake under those circumstances. Do they trap them alive or do they kill them? I only kill poisonous snakes that are near my house. I do that because the can be a danger to my family or pets. Otherwise, I leave them alone. They do serve a purpose in the overall scheme of things so unless they are a threat, I leave them alone. I have never eaten any snake other than a rattlesnake but I understand that many of them are good eating. The rattle snake that I have eaten was always battered and fried. No, it didn't taste like chicken........but it was a bit similar to it. Actually, it tasted like........well.........snake. It was good.

  • The permit sounds like another way to get money from hunters.

The size restriction makes it sound more sporting

Although it could also be a conservation method.

If hunters where just killing snakes just to get rid of them then this would stop that or at least slow it down.

Think about the wild hogs we have here in Texas

You do have to have the regular license, however there is no restriction on how many, how you take them or when you take them.

Now if the population goes down to a low level, then I can see the State placing a "Tag" on them.

As for eating snake, mmm mighty tasty.

I have never heard of buying a permit to hunt snakes, but I live in Florida

    Some are very good food

Some are worth money and can be sold as pets or to exhibits

I used to make extra money as a kid selling rattlesnakes to some of the gator exhibits and a few restaurants

a lot of people like eating snake, low in fat and high in protein and other nutrients, people also stuff them, skin them to make wallets, shoes, bags, and I've even seen pants made entirely from rattlesnake skins.

the rattles can be toys for kids since it doesn't rot since it's like your finger nail or your hair, it'll eventually break down though.

some people just kill them for the hell of it, they don't like them, so they kill them.

Some snakes could be tasty I guess, but it would be more of a pest removal operation.
