Quick "survey" for you. How many of you either planted your placenta with a tree or other plant or ate it?
Yes, I am being serious. I know a couple of people who planted them and here is a site with recipes.
Aww, sad, you didn't even want to look at it? It's awesome. My midwife showed me how big it was and how it worked and where my baby came out. The umbilical cord was over 40in long which is almost twice as long as average. It was pretty cool.

I have both of the guys placenta's in the freezer. We're waiting until we move to our own house to plant them, and yes, we're planting apple trees over top of them. (Honestly, no joke.)
We decided to do that as soon as we found out we were "allowed" to keep it - we had NO IDEA that it was our right to do so till the midwife asked us if we wanted her to get rid of it or if we had plans for it. lol - Just one more thing that the medical community likes to rob you of - something that's yours to begin with!

I got to look at the second placenta (the first one came out with a c-section), it was a big fluffy with a liver color and no calcium deposits despite being almost 42 weeks.
We didn't plant it, we didn't have a yard to do that and I sure didn't eat it. I know that some folks believe it is a good way to get back the iron lost in delivery, but since it's actually formed from the fetus it strikes me as cannibalism.

I know Tom Cruise supposedly ate the Placenta when Katie gave birth to Suri.
I can't even stomach the thought of doing such a thing.I never heard of planting it though. Hmmm. Learn something everyday :)

I had a teacher in college that after each kid she froze her placenta in her freezer and when the kids were old enough they bought a baby tree, dug the whole together and planted the placenta near the roots to fertilize. She seemed very happy with her decision and seemed to be a good bonding experience. personally i dont think i would ever want to even see my placenta let alone stare at in in my freezer for years, but hey - to each their own right?

No I didn't but wanted to comment, they say a long umbilical cord is a sign of high intelligence

I would love to or do something cool with it. However, I don't think that the hospital would allow me to take my placenta because as soon as it's "birthed" they throw it in a toxic waste bucket and haul it away.

I wasn't 'allowed' to even see it :( I never should have gone to the hospital as I missed out on so much.

Gross. Nope, had the hospital get rid of it, didn't even want to look at it. Blah. Who would do such gross things?
