Best semi-auto pistol to handle 45 ACP hollow points?

Try a different brand of hollow pointed bullet... some pistols have feed ramp angles that prefer bullets with ogives a bit different than others.

The LLama is a Colt based clone... an little polishing of the feed ramp and throat may get your pistol digesting hollow point fodder. A good gunsmith who works on Colts can do this for a very nominal fee.

If your handy, patient and mechanically- able several 1911- flavored websites can point out how to do this yourself.

I have owned a couple of Llama 380's over the years... they build a pretty good little pistol and they are worth sorting out.

Try using powerball ammo. Its hollow point ammo that has a polymer ball sitting inside the hollow point. This give the bullet has the same profile as ball ammo and it should feed reliable. The polymer ball also make the hollow point opens up when it hits something.

You can also try having the feed ramp polished. But keep in mind that many 1911 style guns (If I remember correctly your Llama is like a small 1911) dont like hollow point and they have to be taken to a gunsmith and worked on to reliably feed them.

I would recommend a modern style pistol. Like a Springfield XD, Glock, HK, SIG, CZ, S&W, ect..... They were all designed with feeding hollow points in mind and should work great for you. The 1911 was designed almost 100 years ago for ball round nose ammo. Some of them will feed hollow points find but it even some of the high dollar 1911's have trouble feeding.

CZ-97B. It's an all steel combat pistol. The only 45acp pistol that has the option to be carried as a single action( c*cked and locked) or a double action with the hammer down. 10 round mags.

If polymer is more your thing. I would look at the S&W M&P series or the Springfield XD.

Or find a DECENT gunsmith and have the Llama throated and ramped. That should cure the problem.

Walther, Beretta, Para, Kimber, Glock, Springfield Armory, Taurus, Ruger, Sig Sauer, S&W, HK, FN....etc all have 45acp handguns that can shoot 45jhp ammo.

I have a colt 1911 national match gold cup that will shoot any hollow point you care to name with no jams all day long.

This is very typical of cheap knock-offs. I have owned 2 cheap guns that had the same problem, they shot FMJ's fine but gagged on Hollow points. They were both disassembled and the parts now live in a landfill.

Try a Taurus, they have several models that fire a 45 ACP and they are relatively inexpensive.

use Federal's expanding full metal jacket and your gun will feed it like fmj. if that does not work try kimer, sig sauer, or taurus. all 3 are 1911.
