MIRACLE MILE, CA! Has anybody ever been there?
So my wife and I are thinking about places to go for our 1 year anniversary. We live in Bakersfield, CA. Not very far away from LA.
So I was thinkin I'd like to somwhere like a beach. Then I thought of that song, Anything But Mine, by Kenny Chesney, where he talks about "Miracle Mile". I thought, Oh, that sounds nice! So I looked it up, and turns out its in LA, not very far. But on the internet, the pictures I saw, just looks like a bunch of boring businesses. Nothin to exciting. At least nothin like I picture when listenin to that song.
So has anybody ever been there? What's it like? Is it on or near the beach? Is there some kind of a carnival? What is there to do there? Do you like it, love it? Tell me about it!

Boring?? No way !!
The reason it's called the Miracle Mile is because it's where the La Brea Tar Pits are.
The Tar Pits are an ongoing geological and archaelolgical dig. There are several "pools" or pits, that have fossils discovered in them almost daily. The pits are bubbling with methane (they look like jacuzzi's almost), and the amount of information that these digs tell us about California is staggering.
Adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits, we have two amazing museums - the Museum of Natural History, and the LA Museum of Contemporary Art. You could spend an entire day there looking around and only walk a few blocks.
I'm a lifelong resident of Los Angeles, and one of my favorite drives is taking Wilshire Blvd from one end to the other. It starts at Ocean Ave, in Santa Monica, and ends at Grand Ave., in downtown. The Miracle Mile is roughly halfway, so it's not near the beach even though you're only about 7 miles inland in that part of town.
If you want a carnival, here's what you do: Book a hotel wherever down here, and at around 10 in the morning (after traffic and so you can sleep in a little while), make your way downtown to Grand Avenue and Wilshire Blvd. Head West until you get to the Miracle Mile, which shouldn't take more than 15 minutes or so, and check out the Tar Pits and the Museums. Stop for lunch at Marie Callendars at Wilshire and Ogden (like, 2 blocks east of the Tar Pits), and then head further west to Santa Monica. At the end of Colorado Ave at Ocean Blvs is the world famous Santa Monica Pier where there's a ferris wheel and a small rollercoaster. By the time you get to The Pier, it should be late afternoon and you can watch the sun set.
Sounds like a pretty good day to me.
:D

Miracle Mile is just a name of a very old shopping area. It is NOT worth seeing now. Like you said, a boring old place. It was nice in the 1940' and 1950's, but not now. A beach would be nice. Santa Monica pier has a ferris wheel and amusements and a nice beach. Redondo Beach has lots of restaurants and a Fun Factory and gift shops. Also a nice beach. You can try www.seemyla.com

The Miracle Mile is a one city block strip of Wilshire Blvd. I can assure you there's absolutely nothing to see. It used to be something, but now you're right, nothing but business buildings, most of them abandoned now.
I used to live on that block, or at least off of it. You can see from a map that it's probably a good 10 miles from the beach. Like I said, absolutely nothing to do there unless you count the Quizno's and Starbucks on the corner of Wilshire and LaBrea.

When downtown L.A. started expanding westerly out into the fields along Wilshire Blvd., a REALTOR/DEVELOPER started calling the expanding stretch of Wilshire Blvd...."THE MIRACLE MILE" because of the new structural steel enabled high rise "skyscrapers"...and the fancy new buildings .that popped up.. The name stuck...but the buildings are now old and routine.....There are some good new museums in the area however...
