Yup, no school today :D
Anyways the epidemic is kinda odd. An unkown influenza Virus that's killed 20 people in 5 days (yes 5 days). Now that number is a bit off the normal.
They won't warn the world until this actually gets out of hand. I have an uncle that works in Hospital Los Angeles (one of the best hospitals in Mexico) and he says they've already had 3 cases there.
Something weird's going on. They are planning to call out school for the next week too. anyways I'm out of Mexico City, things are getting too crazy here.

I´m from Toluca a city with the ill, it´s been quite strange ´cause some weeks ago i heard a lot of cases about pneumonia now we think it was the swine flu, perhaps we have more cases than the government admit we are afraid.
As I´m an elementary and universitary teacher I can tell you closing the schools is the right thing to do, just a simple sarampion I had to send home more than 20 students in my elementary class in order to prevent a mayor infection.
Sadly in MExico our culture about health is poor we go to the school no matter what, and scholar system is so crowded that I have had more than 60 11 yer- old boys in one class, can you imagine so?

That Cabochick girl must live in the moon......... I can't believe how some people can be SO ignorant. We may not be the world's superpower but WE DO have vaccination campaigns all over the country -- and not only for influenza but for ALL kind of diseases. And we often have influenza shots given out every year but, if that girl was a bit more brilliant, she would know that a single vaccine DOES NOT (simply CANNOT) include all the existing varieties of the virus, so people can get a shot comprising varieties 1-2-5-7 and get infected by variety 8..... WHAM.
The epidemic isn't too spread yet and that's why measures are being taken. But I just read that the most serious cases were found in TX and CA........ yes, in FIRST WORLD COUNTRY USA....!!!! WOW, don't they have vaccination campaigns over there??????? what an uncivilized country......
I don't think this should cause people to get paranoid, apparently this is still not widely spread and it can still be controlled if basic precautions are taken.

WHO (World Health Organization) gives numbers of 800 sick and 57-60 dead in Mexico City alone.
Schools are shut down and all people have been advised to limit their movements to only the necessary.
There are 7 reported cases in the US. Also, the cases in Mexico were noticed since the end of March.
I'm not leaving the city. All that is needed is some common sense and we will be fine. Face masks, washing our hands after using public transport, taking some vitamin C. If we are sick then we shouldn't leave the house. All that.

Yeah well it is weird that there are no news about it in the USA, here I see something new about the swine flu every hour, it's critical. On Saturday the Universidad de Guadalajara suspended classes Monday & Thursday but now I think there won't be school anywhere until May 6th, and yeah night clubs are also closing, everything is closing, I heard that the airports are closing too but I don't think that's true.
Anyway, take care (: , even if things aren't as bad in USA as they are in here you should prevent, you know wash your hands often, eat vitamin C, avoid touching your mouth/nose/eyes etc, stay away from crowded places, etc...

Actually, there is news of it in the USA. Just google it and you should find a couple of newspapers about it (I just googled it). Also, there is talk of all government offices being closed.
Not all schools closed today, I heard on the radio (I live in Mexico) that one school's headmistress refused to close the school until she got a written report from the SecretarÃa de Salud.
Yes, I believe it should be told to the world. The more people we get investigating this strange new type of infuenza, the sooner we can get a quick cure to all the people over here.

This is LILI's answer translated into English:
I live in the cd. of Mexico, and I can tell you that on Friday suspended classes in schools, offices closed early, people stay in their homes, not out, the streets are deserted despite being Saturday, cinemas, concerts and events have closed. in the streets people use to buy and give face mask on the subway and streets in the day communicated the government sends warning to the population, a cousin who works epidemiologia said that doctors, nurses and many patients have died.
Just ask God to help us because it seems to be very serious and is likely to become pandemic.
According to this reported epidemic began in United States and I think they do not say much in order not to create panic here as in Mexico City.
Luck and if safety measures can do it, that this Canyon.
===========================================================
I think this is much worse than is being reported. Over 1300 infected and the official death toll at 81, currently. I've heard reports that the numbers are botched and the death toll is over 200. It's most likely going to get much worse, real soon.
We'll know for sure early next week.

You bet it's a darn huge problem... over a 1000 cases have been filed by now not all confirmed yet to see. This is crazy... scary more likely... it's in the air.. they dont know who has it and who doesnt.. if it's just a flu or the actual kliller desease... there is an international airport in one of the top ten biggest cities in of the world that hasnt been closed.. so like they said.. "by now it may be too late" even now that they've found out what is going on it remains on duty.. dont take it for granted you all... follow through and listen to what the experts tell you to do.. if you wanna know more about it google it.. but look into it and find out. they havent found cure yet.. this is unknown... a mix of viruses from pigs, birds and humans from asia, europe and america .. never seeen before.. this is bad =( and yes there are news all over .. i see it in every channel..
