would you hire a theist for a job that required critical thinking...eg computing?

I would never discriminate against ones religion when I was thinking of hiring them. Of course, if I owned a lab that was researching the Big Bang and evolution, I would probably question why a devout Christian wanted to work there in the first place. There is no reason a person who follows religion cannot work in a technical field. Of course, I may also feel uncomfortable if they spent a great deal of our working relationship trying to tell me to be religious.

Certainly.
Theists are very good at compartmentalizing their use of critical thinking.
So even though there may be problems with applying critical thinking to their religious beliefs, their use of it in respect of something that doesn't relate to religious belief may be entirely unimpaired. I would hire based on competence, nothing more. I have no issue with individual belief (unless they want to proselytize at work - that becomes harassment).

It depends. I know a lot of people that just can't let go the belief in God, even though they believe in evolution and everything. I think I would hire my biology teacher who goes to church. She must have a reason, perhaps she misses someone so much it's just about impossible to not believe in an afterlife.

Let me go ask my neighbor's husband; he's a computer programmer with a Master's Degree in Computer Science, and he's also a very devout Christian.
Your little innuendo is critical failure at critical thinking itself; err, you lose.

Do you seriously believe that we accept God, that we cannot function in society? Many Christians work technical jobs and you know it, I myself am studying engineering. Just because you can't understand how we see the world doesn't mean we are totally detached from reality. Please, all I ask is you treat us as human beings on here. I don't care if you hate me or think I'm an idiot, I only ask that you hate me for me and not because of my religion.

Sure, did you know that Ken Jennings was a software engineer and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In case you have forgotten, he's the one who made the winning streak on the game show "Jeopardy."

I would.
For reasons I can't explain, theists just seem to put their reasoning skills aside when thinking about God. But they usually pick them back up when they are in the real world.

I don't ask people their beliefs when interviewing. While some of the best software engineers I know or have hired are atheists some are also theists.
Computer Science is fairly insulated from being effected by belief systems.

If they were qualified - yes. I don't look at race, religion or sexual orientation when hiring. I'm a chef now, but I *did* used to work in the computer industry and I still didn't worry about that kind of thing. Someone can either do the job or they can't - it's that simple.

I know a theist that's good with numbers, but her talks about the anti-christ all the time would make me trash her resume.
