Local short track (Limited/Late Model Stock) racing?

Don't you just love local rivalries between 2 drivers? Don't you think it makes for better racing? Reminds me of "back in the day."

Update:

Charles B, amen! It's about the thrill.........not the money or sponsers.

I sure do; long time rivalries are great. I'm pretty old, so I can remember a lot of them.

Short track racing to me exemplifies the human qualities that made this nation great. Racers are independent, incredibly innovative, driven to excel, and wildly tenacious. Most of the car owners, the ones who foot the bills for this expensive sport, are owners of small businesses. They own body shops, truck lines, heavy equipment, and construction businesses. Most of them can tell you how it was to be poor when they sunk every dime back into the business, until the day the business would support a race team. I have to smile every time I buy a pit pass and get to watch America''s best battle it out on the track, and help each other in the pits.

I'm glad to hear that each of you has the same appreciation of the sport.

I'll agree with everything Charles said and add another.

The on track rivalries are great, but even better are when those same rivals help each other out in the pits. On numerous occasions I've seen racers that are locked in points battles help their competitors after an accident or problem. I've seen cars pull into the pits with flat tires and damage and watched as other crews come running with spares and tools to get that car back out on the track. I've seen other crews thrash to change a blown engine during a 15 minute intermission, when they could be getting a drink and a burger and relaxing. It makes for great racing when you know that your opponents will lend you a hand if you need it, and that you'll be there for them.

Short track racing is almost always great. You can actually see the cars all the way around the track. Tickets don't cost $100. Short races mean more action per minute too. These guys actually drive as if they want to race instead of be a corporate front man.

    Yes!

Because of the lower budgets of this style of racing, they do not have the number of officials and rule enforcement of a sanctioning body like Nascar or IRL. You get to see the drivers every week. You can get up close and personal with them, both because the tracks are smaller and you can physically see them, and many times you can go into the pits before and after the races.

Many times I have seen guys fighting to get "meal money" for the rest of the week. The have to win because they spent all of their money on the race car. That makes for a "hungrier" driver (I guess in the literal and figurative sense!). No babied, daddy bought me a race car, have to wax my eyebrows for the cameras type guys in this class!

    Thats why I like it.
