Help! What could cause central air to barely blow and hardly drop the temperature?

I just moved into an apartment and it so hot. I tried to run the central air the other day, left it on for like 4 hours (it was 87 degrees out) My indoor temp in 4 hours only got down to 86. It seems as though the heat and central air barely blow (all the vents are on the ceiling too) The furnace filter was dirty, I cleaned it as best I could and am waiting on the landlord to bring me a new one. Is there anything else I can do? Its not even summer yet and I'm 6 months pregnant and way too hot. Please help! Thanks:)

Nothing more on your end. You did your best.

Landlord needs to have that checked out. Freon may be low or a leak somewhere in the system.

In the meantime, run your ceiling fans, or fans to help cool down the temp.

Also, remind yourself, usually when rent is due, clean the filter.

Well airflow is the problem. See if a rug or something is blocking air intake to the ac unit. This should be a large looking vent in the wall and it should be clean too. take out the filter for now it won't hurt for a day or two. Make sure all ceiling vents are open all the way.Get a friend to stand on a chair to open them or take a broom handle and move that little lever on side of vent so the louvers are full open or vertical so you can see up through vent.

IF air still does not flow out or its not cold you have a problem.

Urgent call to landlord! Tell them its urgent to have heating and cooling per contract and the state agencies declare such units unfit for humans to live in. Tell them you just got off the phone with Health Dept.

I bet they will be at your door in 5mins.

HVAC Tech.: What you have is a case of very poor maintenance. This type of neglect usually leads to clogged fins in the evaporator coil (cooling) this prevents the exchange of heat from the air as well as diminishing the flow of air. The coil and drain system need to be cleaned, the charge level should be checked, the outside unit (condenser) should be washed out and its' air flow be unobstructed. You will also need to see that the air filter is replaced once a month, EVERY month. These hints will keep you cool all summer long, IF followed.Best of luck!

replace filter....clean both coils....have somebody check the charge.....the A-coil could be dirty too....you never know how many times somebody ran that furnace or AC blower with no filter at all....in that case your indoor coil would be dirty too. It's pretty common in an apartment for thses things to happen

with reference to the cleansing of the Evaporator: There could desire to be a panel precise in front of the coil which you would be able to eliminate and earnings get admission to to it. this could be the place you spot the refrigerant strains going into the air handler. numerous sheet metallic screws is all that holds it in. there may well be a cut back out around the place the refrigerant strains are. which will come off the comparable way. as quickly as interior there in all probability would be yet another panel to the interior the coil. eliminate it. Now, use a typical homestead carry cleanser inclusive of 409 and spray the coils down. in case you may get a hose with a twig attachment to the coils use that to bathe them down. administration your spray with the intention to no longer over pass the tray. in case you may no longer get a hose, use a twig bottle with clean water to bathe it down. that could desire to be all there is to it. positioned each and everything back the place you got here upon it and deploy a clean clear out.

Have your landlord check the ducting for leaks. Sometimes they come apart and you will have reduced air flow through your vents. filter shouldn't make that big of difference.

Could be anything from bad blower motor to low freon. Have the landlord send the maintenance man over to check it out.

The landlord needs to fix the a/c not only the filter.the R-12 needs charging.

Please make the land lord have it checked out professionally it seems like the system refrigerant charge could be low or have a clogged evaporator coil apartments are notorious for this.
