Could the Flu Pandemic be the Next 9/11?

No. The outbreak wasn't intentional and won't kill as many people.

My practical/logical side tells me this could be awfully tragic. That even though the mortality rate may be about 7% vs the approximate 40% mortality of bird flu, there could be much overlooked illness such as severe pneumonia afflicting many. I don't see this as a run-of-the-mill flu.

My intuitional/psychic side tells me that this will blow over fairly rapidly in the medium short-term in the US, and even though we will get the tragic stories of some individuals, things will be basically contained and this will all be reflected upon by the media/government as a sort of learning experience in case of a worse pandemic. There will be a sort of patting oneself on the back for not over-reacting.

My general opinion is that travel restrictions vs travel advisories should have been placed rapidly, but that government is so worried about financial impacts that we're willing to take big chances and make some proverbial human sacrifices to the gods. I don't call that a good place to be.

Give me a break. One of these flu strains comes around every couple of years and there's a big media panic and people run around in circles.

Its not impossible that this could be bio-terrorism by the Islamic Terrorists. They have recently warned of an event to happen.

Mexico has verry lax importation rules and would be the perfect gateway to spread disease into the US.
