Do you have a childhood memory to share just for fun?
Soft,
well-worn,
well-loved.
Years-old mud
embedded in the
thin soles.
Occasionally holding
a kitten or two,
playing with the
laces,
mewling for help.
Clomped around in
by a toddler
up to their knees
in fun,
pretending,
grinning
from ear to ear.
The inevitable trip,
but still smiling.
What memories
this leather holds.

Smiling too, and the smell of leather.....brings back bunches
ok, my memory...
my pony used to eat Tic Tacs,
and fight the dog over pork chop bones.

Hundreds! Hiding from the Vikings when they came to burn down our village. Throwing old ladies in the village pond to see if they were witches or not. Digging elephants traps in the main street, even though there were no elephants about, and running away when the local police man on his bike fell in and was fatally impaled on the wooden stakes at the bottom. Oh, and every summer the Unicorns would come and if you were quiet you could hide up in the trees in the woods to watch them pass underneath............then take them out with a crossbow. Oh, such fun. It's all true......honestly ;o)

I love this! So sweet and feminine. When I was a little girl my older sister and I used to play at a nearby park. One time, after a heavy rain, we played there and I got my shoes stuck in the mud. I couldn't get them out and I was terrified my dad would spank me. My sister and her friend laughed their heads off. I remember getting those shoes out totally plastered with mud. You poem is much sweeter than that experience. Thank you for sharing.

Gnarled branches
opened,
inviting.
Taking me to
new places,
adventures
unfold.
hiding,
watching,
the world
beneath me unaware.
What secrets
nature beholds.

Spring in the mud
waiting fondly where
raspberries will grow.
Cats, kids and even a
friend or two
have fondled those shoes
of mine.

I used to always wear my Pop's boots. Dirty nasty boots now that I think about it, but a fun memory nonetheless.
Thanks.
