Gateway computer case help?

I wanted to open up my parents old desktop with aspirations of possibly updating the RAM. But after removing the thumb screws, the side of the case that is supposed to come off is remaining firmly in place. Does anyone know if there is a special release switch somewhere or is the case just being stubborn?

does it have a small like clip in the middle of the side you took the thumb screws out that goes up and down you have to push it down and the panel should slide back but if not the panel should still slide straight back. I would go to www.crucial.com and let their little program scan your system it will tell you what memory you have size and speed and what the max you can ugrade to is speed and size. Thanks

Older gateways just have two screws on the back, (possibly 3), but on the left side of the tower case, that is the part that you can push off. depending on your model ofcourse, but try to hold with both hands the middle of the left side on top, and push it away. is it E series by the way?
